Maybe we are what we are

Everyone is so upset because of coaching, lack of heart, poor defense, rebounding…or whatever. Even the positive posters seem to have plenty of excuses for the poor play and a brighter outlook for future games.

But maybe we are what we are.

We have only played 2 good games (UAB & Alabama) all year. 2 out of 15 doesn’t show a lot of promise. The only reason our record looks good is because we have played literally 12 cupcakes. Maybe Curt isn’t as good as we thought, maybe this team isn’t as talented or as deep as we thought. Maybe we layed an egg against Cincy because we are an average team.

Maybe we are an average (at best) team that has simply played over their head on 2 occassions…and our NORMAL average-selves in the other 13.

That’s a more reasonable assumption than thinking the 2 times we played our best is how good this team actually is.

We may just be average…and when we play with no heart (like at Cincy)…we are even worse.

clt types: this clearly is not an elite team. clt believes we are a top 35 team that plays to the level of its competition, and needs to get more icy hot if they wanna be stunnas in the 05. word up, its the code word. that is whack.

I don’t know the history of Charlotte since I really became a fan when I got here in 2002 so I can’t say how this year ranks in comparison to past years at Charlotte. What I find strange is how many of the players “appear” to have taken 3 steps backwards this season. Well, mainly Withers. On the other side Eddie has taken two steps forward, in my opinion. But as far as Withers goes, he has never looked like he’s been in the game this year. He looks bored out there. Iti has looked well at moments but not really. Plavich continues to have real issues with shooting but then again, Lutz allows this and apparantly encourages it so I can’t really blame Plavich. Mitchell has been a nice spark though not as consistant on offense as I would have hoped.

In short, maybe we simply aren’t as good as we all “hoped.” A loss in the 1st round this season will make for an EXTRA long offseason. Last year, I thought it was due to not having a PG and I believed Withers would get better. Looks like I may have been wrong.

Or maybe we stood around for 40 minutes with our heads up our asses and got beat down by a team that obviously wanted it more than we did.

That was the knock on him in HS. We really hadn't seen it much until this season.

Curt was doing very well this year until the second half of the Bama game. Though he scored his season high, he was basicly locked down for the last 25 minutes. Since that time he hasn’t been the same.

The thread title says it all.

That is the reason that everyone on this board gets so angry. It is not that we lost the game but HOW we lost it. I’ve said it already, so has everyone else, that was horrible, terrible, frustrating, sad, etc.

This happens to us every year. If history repeats itself (which it does with us) then we will probably start playing well in mid to late February. Hope that is not too late.

OK, that is all I have to say about the Cincy game. I have posted my complaints in several threads so far. No more.

Marquette on Saturday. We need to win. Hopefully the guys will get mad and we will blow them out at home. Well, I don’t really care if it is one point or a hundred. Just win. Go niners.

Comparing Iti 04-05 to Iti 03-04: No comparison.

Last year, he’d get in the game and quickly foul someone. Often times, no hard enough, letting the shot go in. He’d then get the ball down low and lose it. Often times he would be frustrated and reach out and grab. There you go. 1 minute, 2 fouls, 1 turnover. Why don’t you go sit for a few minutes.

This year he has cut his fouls down by alot. He’s had fewer turnovers. However, he still can’t move his feet.

Withers. I’m baffled. Was last year a fluke? Or did he run out of gas playing for Kelvin Sampson?

Basden. Woo Hoo! This guy has got as much heart as Bobby Kummer. Except Eddie’s alot quicker and he can get the ball in the hoop.

Anyway. I think I’m over my Nati Blues. Marquette, YOU’RE GOING DOWN!

well did carolina look eliete vs santa clara? No. Did they look like a top 35 team? No
Take away chris paul from wake and see how they play. Take away any good teams point guard and see how it goes, you can still win if your 2 guard is out or your center, but a point guard makes a huge difference. Wait until Baldwin plays before you judge this team.

Nice post Porkchop…only disagree with you on 1 thing…ITI…1)he’s got the worst hands i’ve ever seen…2)I think he’s hit 1 shot from more than 3 feet away…HE CAN’T SHOOT…3)He gets outrebounded by guys 6 inches shorter…HE CAN’T REBOUND OR BOX OUT…4) FREE THROWS…WELL…NUF SAID…5)hE’S got terrible footwork…6)He looks no stronger or quicker than last year at all…BUT…OTHER THAN THAT HE’S HEADED FOR THE NBA AND SUPERSTARDOM!!!

But could he play ball after crawling around on his knees, searching for his two front teeth? :stuck_out_tongue:

I was at the Big I when that happened and to this day, it’s right up there with the Theisman injury for me, in terms of sports injuries that make you cringe. :scared:

Bright side about Withers lack of domination this year is that he may be back for a Senior year to boost his NBA stock.

…Just trying to find something good in the disappointment so far.

Baldwin has played in EVERY game this year other than Cincy and we've looked bad in every one except UAB & Alabama. Again, maybe we are what we are. An average team that played over our heads in those 2 games.
