was that the season we got ranked and then choked and lost the last 5 or so games in a row?

Nope, that was the season just before that, when coach declared “We’re BAAAAAAACK!!”

The bad - even after doing things like winning 3 games against top 10 teams, and winning 10 true road games, we still got shafted by the selection committee (8/9 game or 7/10)

The good - this place was absolutely bonkers this time of year. Cincy fans, Memphis & UAB, and lots and lots of smack talk & expectations. We’re less than 3 weeks from the MM pep rally and 30 days from our 1st exhibition and you could drop a pin…

I’d take the end of season disrespect in a heartbeat if it meant we had that much excitement again.

No that was the season before…we lost to Texas Tech in the first round.

You are correct. Link

“The 49ers have a habit of losing games they should win — such as home contests against George Washington and UAB.”

Some things never change.

george washington has our number since 2004. we are 0 - 5 against them since then.

More memories (well, for some of you at least):

Wow I’m reading the Grier / Basden post…just wow.

What kind of drugs were some people on that board smoking?

Good point NA. The mystique that has surrounded this program in the past has all but gone. And not neccesairly because of the players or caoches, but because (in my opinion) we don’t play the UCs and Louivilles anymore.

But… this season could be special. If my the grace of God we can beat 4 ACC teams, then some of that excitement just might return, and Charlotte will be talking about us again. Problem is, reality usually does its thing.

HP, some things never get old.

ID, I’ve witnessed alot of basketball games in Charlotte as well as on the road since 1976. Some were great wins, some ugly losses, road trips with Judy as a firey coach, snow on game days, even drunken fun with Bearcats but I’ll tell you, that Sunday trip to Asheville would easily make the Top 10 list just for the fun we had that day.

i wasn’t sitting with your group, your group wasn’t sitting with chisox, his group wasn’t sitting with whoever, so on and so on, ninernation had not yet blossomed into a “community” yet… but that day, when the asheville dance squad walked onto the courts, we were one force, one thought process.

It may be safe to say, that the bulldog diva brought us together, but not in a hp+jcl+bulldog diva kinky kind of way

To this day I can still not fathom one thing and one thing only… why? Just, why?

QFT. That game was a blast. All those beers at the Bier Garden before the game helped that along.

The Bier Garden was a nice spot, TF.

Wow. Yeah, I look real sober in that picture.

Man, I used to love posting on the “mother ship” as Jax, JungleRat and i used to call the Charlotte.com boards and mess with you guys.

Damn, I remember when some idiot from UNCC wished JungleRat would die from cancer. Those were the days of some damn good smack talk fun.

I remember when Rat got banned for making fun of Dale Earnhardt’s death…Not a good thing to do on a North Carolina site, huh?
