There has been no news on any of the recruiting services nor on Ninerreport on this committment since it was announced over a week ago. The news may have been somewhat pre-mature, but I certainly hope I’m wrong.
Where did the news come from?

Here’s the latest I could find, albeit 2 weeks old…
Breakdownmagazine.com: Mike Beasley Decides On UNC Charlotte
I especially liked this part:
“He is the top freshman (2008) in the Country”
That is just too cool.

Wow, nice find Run. Send that right over to the Observer. Doesn’t two sources make it legit?
Apparently there is more to the story for premium subscribers.
Also, this article states he’s '08. JJ says he’s now '07.

BTW, if the Big O needs a number:
Louis Wilson
Head Coach, Boys Varsity Basketball
Riverdale Baptist School
Upper Marlboro, MD

Link: Louis Wilson
I emailed Persinger. He’ll probably want to talk to Beasley himself.
Wow! Sorry guys I have been out of town for the last week or so…
I talked with Mike’s guardian and he’s solid on the commitment according to him.
We’re going to be talking to him soon, and they’re also still saying he’s going to be reclassified to '07.
Since so much time has lapsed since the last Beasley update, we’ll make it available to everyone.

JJ…thanks for the update. I was getting a little worried at first but then again 2007 is a long way off.
Blurb today from HoopScoop on Beasley…
“We also have confirmed via Curtis Malone, who runs the DC Assault club team program, that 6’7 Michael Beasley from Upper Marlboro (Riverdale Baptist) MD has reclassified again and, as a result, is now a sophomore, instead of a freshman. If you will recall, a year ago Beasley was listed as a freshman in high school at the adidas ABCD Camp, but then reclassified back to the 8th Grade upon enrolling at Bradenton (Pendleton School) FL last fall. And, if this and the fact that Beasley recently transferred to Upper Marlboro (Riverdale Baptist) MD isn’t enough to confuse you, it also appears that he recently verbally made a very early verbal commitment to Charlotte. No, we’re no talking about the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA. We’re talking about the UNC-Charlotte 49ers of Conference USA and the connection appears to be former UNCC player and current assistant coach Dalonte Hill, who not only played in high school, but upon graduating from college was an assistant for DC Assault. However, we may have been closer to being right the first time, because Beasley was so outstanding at the Charlie Weber Invitational Tournament that he must now be ranked as the #3 sophomore in America behind 6’5 Soph O.J. Mayo from Cincinnati (North College Hill) OH and 6’5 Soph Bill Walker from Cincinnati (North College Hill) OH and, as a result, will probably never see a day of college basketball.”
 @ Clark Francis’ wonderment and jealousy.
Maybe Beasley will be good enough to make the jump, but maybe he’ll want to play some college ball anyway.
I hope he does, just to twist the knife in that wanker Clark Francis. B)

Clark Francis is buddies with Nickelberry from what I remember. Beasley’s stock will likely fall because of the re-classification, his commitment, and his decision to home-school. There’s no reason to rank him in the elite group for 2007. UNC and Duke no longer have a shot at him. He’s coming to Charlotte if he plays college basketball.
Dave Telep posted an article today (9/28/04) about it…
Bobby Lutz better be a good defender because he’s got three years worth of defense to play in regards to 6-foot-7 sophomore forward Michael Beasley. According to Beasley’s AAU coach, Curtis Malone, Beasley is committed to the Charlotte 49ers. The 49ers had a tremendous recruiting advantage in regards to Beasley. One of their assistants, Dalonte Hill, is a former player and assistant coach with the D.C. Assault.
Beasley is the top rated player (Rodney White being a close second) that we can remember the 49ers ever landing and is considered a contender to go straight to the NBA out of high school.
Beasley was the co-MVP of Super 64 in July when his team captured the Elite 36 in Las Vegas. Aside from O.J. Mayo, you won’t find a prospect as gifted as Beasley. He’s a true outside-inside guy with size, skills and range on his jumper.
Last season, Beasley starred Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy where he was listed as an 8th grader. This fall, he was reclassified into his current grade and is a sophomore at Riverdale Baptist … sort of.
According to Malone, Beasley is getting home schooled this year along with Assault teammate Nolan Smith. The pair will do their work in the classroom at home but lace them up for Riverdale Baptist on the hardwood.
“When you do the home school you can play at different schools throughout the area that accept home schoolers,” Malone said. “Riverdale is one of them and Nolan will be there too.”
According to Blue Chip Hoops, he will play SF/PF. He is ranked at their #2 player in that class and the #1 power forward.
Hope he gets a chance to play for you guys as this is good news for the entire A-10. I would like to see him go up against the studs that Phil Martelli is bringing in on Hawk Hill. Check us out at www.hawkhoopclub.org .
