I am all for it. I am sick of this shit. Most people are and can’t wait to get back to some semblance of college sports with regional conferences we care about. That seems to be the vast majority of Charlotte, App and ECU fans that I talk with.
Could you please link your source that Poggi was a volunteer coach at Michigan as well? Thanks!
No med school.
No law school.
Roadblock changing diminutive name.
“Don’t start football.”
Biggest city in the state.
They could not care less
Historical treatment by “the Big O” and CH alums.
Ya, nothing to see here.
I have been going back and forth on this in my head. What makes sports great for me, and I think a lot in this country is the “underdog” theory. That is what makes march madness great, a 7 seed making the final 4. The thought and the hope of the upset and my school beat the almighty Ala. I think is what drives people. On any given Sat a team can be beaten. ND lost to a team they paid $1.5m to play them this year. Kennesaw State beat Liberty, who most thought was going to be the G5 team in the playoff beginning year.
But I understand your point as well. That was back when the playing field was only slightly tilted against the little guy, now it is considerably.
They - whoever that is - don’t care about Niner athletics. Not even on their radar.
So you know they blocked law and med school? I know there were comments about football but I don’t recall them doing anything to stop it.
They’re stopping the name change??? What does the size of the city have to do with them?
Y’all looking for a scapegoat. We haven’t needed any help being bad at sports that matter. Put the blame where it belongs. It’s on us pure and simple
Well they are playing today.
Just my $0.02 but I think you are arguing two different things here. Bust is arguing that they have blocked our progress in the past. Hootie is arguing that they don’t see us as a threat (anymore). Both things can be true.
Though I think we are only a lesser threat because we are so mismanaged, unambitious, and generally complacent.
The simple fact that this university’s growth has comprised over half the growth in the entire UNC university system over the last 7-10 years is statement enough about our relative level of threat.
I don’t recall them doing anything to stop it.
You forgot about former UNC leader coming to our campus to tell us not to?
What does the size of the city have to do
Largest city, no med school, no law school. Diminutive name. It’s not rocket science.
We haven’t needed any help being bad at sports that matter.
The only mention of sports was the football program, and that is far bigger than performance (of a fledgling program no less).
Y’all looking for a scapegoat.
You’re too cool for critical thinking, and that you have to resort to using your boogeyman word “conspiracy” and that you have to keep saying “it makes [you] laugh” speaks volumes.
Sorry, I choose not to blame others for my own failures or shortcomings. Whatever that makes me to you is of no concern to me.
This is insanity.
The lawyers in the house case want a percentage of athlete payments over the next 10 years.
The settlement also entitles the class counsel to earn an annual percentage share of that athlete revenue over the next decade, with a starting share of 0.75% in the first year, scaling up to 1.5% in the 10th. That means the plaintiffs lawyers could earn tens of millions of dollars in addition to the $484 million they are currently seeking.
For a good overview on this check out the latest episode of the College Football Enquirer.
Starts at around 25 minutes.
Ross Dellinger does a good job breaking this down and also goes over the entire situation again and how non P4 schools are getting royally screwed.
Welcome to mass tort / class action practice (they’re basically the same thing).
It’s all a grift. All of it. Everyone just wants a cut of the action. The rest is grandstanding about “right” and “wrong”. At the end of the day, it’s just greed.
We have players.
Same as every year we lose some we sign more.
It all reeks so bad.
Our current performance in athletics has nothing to do with Chapel Hill. It is entirely our own incompetence.
With that said they most certainly did not want us to have a football program and from an institution point of view has systematically withheld funding and approvals that would have furthered the academic mission of the school. The name change is another thing that if voted on would be denied due to chapel hill influence. The entire projects must be fully funded prior to building certainly could also be of chapel hill making. Never got clarification on why we are the only campus with that rule.
They would rather let Wake Forest build a med school here than back us.
As for Biff he sucked. He was a bafoon. He was a rich guy pretending to be a college coach and a poor leader. Should have never hired him. His teams were consistently outplayed, out coached out prepared even though we were more talented - you name it. It’s ridiculous he is still a topic here. He will never sniff another college job. He trashed our admin, pissed off donors, didn’t discipline his teams, was unprofessional, didn’t hold players or staff accountable as seen in and most importantly couldn’t win games. Stop giving him credit for the last two wins. One of those games we had zero penalties- not a Biff game.
Why do we have so many coaches when apparently the head coach is responsible for everything?
Why can the AD fire the coach and get a clean slate while the HC is not allowed the same latitude. Only 1.5 years for a coach to fix a long term problem while the AD gets many years of failure in the major sports.
Biff should have been given an opportunity to make adjustments, and more time than 1.5 years. How much time have we given our AD to “right the ship?”?
I like Mike Hill and think he is extremely capable. I don’t think these failures are all on him. It appears he is being given certain mandates and there is probably too many people connected to the AD with too much influence. It’s like having a bad owner in the NFL.
We were trending downward when Biff was hired, from 7 wins to 3. We have trended from 3 wins to 5 wins. Next year could have continued, especially with modifications. We have only had one year with more wins than last year, and we fire the coach in 1.5 years?
He was pulling in better talent than ever before. That’s progress. He was bringing attention to our program; good or bad. Either way, either is better than no attention at all. That’s progress. We needed visibility. We got it!
As for fundraising, no one gives unless they know we exist. No one gives if they are not asked. Biff addressed both. That is also progress.
Because he has no power there.
Two years don’t make a trend. This team has never trended in any direction because we’ve always been dog shit.
