Are you suggesting we should not have hired Biff in the first place? He was not experienced or credentialed enough. That he was only a glorified baby sitter when he got here as you stated.
Or, are you suggesting we hired a glorified high-school coach that should have never been hired in the first place?
I liked the hire but do not support the early termination. Your comments reflect that Biff may have just pissed off the wrong people. Be damned with his potential to win. That’s not paramount at Charlotte.
I hope Bill B. is on his best behavior in Chapel Hill. He certainly does not want to piss off the wrong people. Except Chapel Hill;
values wins.
has the means to hire a truly credentialed coach that gives them some latitude.
has a larger base of donors so if you piss a couple off you don’t lose your job.
has a winning culture that supports their coaches in support of succes. Wins and trends are important in Chapel Hill. Coaches don’t have to worry as much about politics, just win.
Agree, it’s not like as did anything with the 2-3 “headstart” on the coaching search and player retention.
IMO seeing if the upward success continues in yr 3 was prudent thing to do.
That would give Hill enough time to really get that short list of coaches that he has prescreened and ready to go, like we were told he had on this board.
You know who did have a real short list? the AD from Wake, Coach resigns on Friday new coach announced on Tue.
But now we start over again, and the majority of this board is fine with trusting the AD they have been screaming about since '14 wanting to get fired. And that other little tiny thing, we have no players.
I also would like to see documented confirmation that he pissed off any Admin or donors? I don’t want to hear, well a friend of my son works in the AD and he said. Biff going on the radio and saying he expected the clt business community to support the program isn’t more confrontational, it was his job.
I don’t think Mike Hill lets Poggi go unless there were some major internal issues. The talent was there but the on field execution and performance was poor. He will never coach college football again. Strange that this is his 3rd venture into the Michigan program and nobody knows what he does. Seems a little shady just like his HS football teams.
Do you really believe what you wrote above? Wins are not what anyone wants in a coach? Just don’t piss off admin and donors, and make sure you are working 80 hours a week so we make sure we are getting our money’s worth out of you.
I believe wins do matter and if you can get 10 wins each season, you can show up on game days and once a year to collect trophies and accolades.
I think you nailed it above. Wins at Charlotte do not matter. You better suck up to admin and donors and work long hours. Winning is just a bonus in the major sports at Charlotte.
The Belicheck comment was that Bill will not have to play by the same rules as Biff. Just win. Biff can wear his hoodie and a thong, just win.
Charlotte is more worried about image, perhaps driven from above. Our role in the UNC system is to be competitive in irrelevant sports and have a polished image.
Biffs legacy- beat ECU twice when they were bad, dumb penalties, poor defense, mysterious injuries and benchings, QBs were horrendous except for flashes from Purdie and Ivey ( Jalen Jones and Max Brown never played up to Biffs bragging), blowups on the sideline, disorganized, hated talking to the media, dressed like a slob,. Volunteer Associate head Coach at Michigan is perfect for him. I’m sure when Michigan fires the current coach, Biff is next in line. (NOT)
Biff has been gone for a month and a half now and Butch Jones has now been insulted. We finally have a legit head coach and we are talking about Biff??? Let’s move forward guys. Biff could recruit but I couldn’t watch another minute of that garbage he put on the field. Good Lord.
This is what I have been focused on and saying for a while, the non-profit status for sports collectives will be coming to an end soon. Will still be there for contributing to Universities education programs. I have read that Elon Musk and Ramaswamy with their DOGE initiative has already identified this loophole as a way to bring additional tax dollars in. I have to believe, without this tax advantage it gives donors to give sports programs money, it will take a big bite out of the annual collectives.
