MLB Draft

Speaking of Seagars…this is from younger brothers milb.com page:
His middle brother, Justin, played collegiately at the University of Charlotte, while his father, Jeff, played at Farleigh Dickinson University.

University of Charlotte… I like it

Hamilton not getting a call is a big surprise. Would expect him to get a free agent look unless he made it clear he intends to move on and not play anymore.

Gotta think a lefty with starting and closer experience would be worth something

I think all 3 are gone and good for them.

I wish Hamilton and Basen had gotten a chance.[/quote]

I hope not and I’m not sure going would be best for them either. Especially not for Butler and to a lesser extent Barnette.

I hope Barnette stays, obviously. You really think he would make the jump now?
I can’t imagine he gets much of a signing bonus.
I don’t know his personal situation, but I would want one more year to see if I could get back in the top 10 rounds.
I know it is not the round that matters, but the signing bonus. We’ll see what he gets offered.

My guess is that Seager is the only one of the 3 that leaves and Barnette tries to improve on last season at Charlotte.

Barnette has the leverage of coming back to school . He won’t have that next year so I would think his bonus would be higher now.

Butler is coming off Tommy John surgery so I am surprised he got drafted. He’s bounced around from Marshall to JUCO and say out last year with Tommy John. What would hold him here?

BINGO. Unless he has an incredible year next year, his signing bonus will be less. Significantly less. That’s why kids sign after their junior year. Improving your stock in your senior year rarely happens.

16th round.

Well, it is not a surprise that Seager will sign with teh M’s.

Here is a pic that was posted on their twitter account yesterday of Justin and his brother Kyle.

I have heard there is a chance that Barnette returns, and highly likely that Ryan Butler comes to school.

Seager signed yesterday and will likely end up with the Everett Aquasox, short season A affiliate of the Mariners. Took BP at Safeco Field yesterday.

Barnette went to Chicago yesterday, and it is looking like he will sign.

Can’t find anything on Butler.

On another note, Miguel Rodriguez is on teh Lowell Spinners roster. A affiliate of the Red Sox.

Seager is with the Everett AquaSox. ( Short Season Single A)

Barnette is with the Bristol (VA) White Sox (Rookie League). Bristol plays at Burlington July 23-25.

Vote for Justin Seager for the Northwest League All-Star Game.

He is currently 3rd in the league in Batting Average at .333. Just hit his 1st HR this weekend.
