Yep take from the rest of the state because the Raleigh area doesn’t have enough corporations to support a bid. Funny how this WRAL article doesn’t mention CLT as a possible landing spot for a new team. I’m sick of these Raleigh folks assuming that they will get a team over us and using the great Hurricanes season as a prop for it. I’m convinced when the time comes, Charlotte will be there. I’ve heard rumblings that Marcus Smith and other Nascar folks are interested. Our market here checks all the boxes for a team night and day compared to Raleigh. The Hurricanes are a great story and franchise that I support but that doesn’t make you a MLB city. When the Raleigh sports guys come onto WFNZ they have this arrogance that they are better than us. Their airport can’t even keep the Avelo Airlines base, it was moved to the Concord airport last year. There is a reason why the Charlotte skyline looks the way it does compared to Raleigh.

Hurricanes great run this decade is important to the story. Same potential ownership. Raleigh metro area is different than Charlotte but it is an equally attractive region to MLB. As far as state funding it seems like they are attempting to setup similar funding models used in other sports venues around the state.
