MTV's Two-a-Days

Did anybody catch MTV’s Two-a-Days last week? They talked about Independence High’s win streak

Ya i saw…Probst put an article up on the locker room wall and said Independece was what to shoot for and they were the best in the country

Yea, I saw that. The coach said “Independence…North Carolina” It sounded like he didn’t know where it was at.

Yep, I picked up on that as well. I really enjoy that show but last season was much better than this one. Some of it is kind of cheesy with the cheerleader/relationship stuff but it’s really interesting seeing how a top notch high school football program is run on the inside. Coach Propst is the man.

those alabama boys would have killed independence this past season. the big I doesn’t playing any big bad teams until playoffs.

Agreed. I don’t even think it would have been close. Though, that Hoover team wasn’t nearly as good as the two seasons before. They lost a couple games the previous teams would have never lost.

yeah. but independence hasn’t been as good since chris leak left. that senior class was the best big i has ever had. they like 18 D1 players on that team if i remember correctly.

Dax,

I would have to agree with you regarding Independence not playing ig bad teams until the playoffs. Just look at Indy’s conference schedule: Providence adn Butler and a non conference game with Vance. Those are three of the state’s best. As a 4A football coach I will not BS you on who are strong teams and who are not strong teams. i game plan each week against these teams that Indy plays on a weekly basis.

NCHS football is way underrated!

well indepedence also has a lot of help from the refs. they are like duke of high school football. they get away with a lot of crap. providence and butler are the two big games that independence plays every year.

but independence also plays garinger, west meck, south meck and other teams like that which completely dumify their schedule.

Every public high school in America plays a few bad teams each year., but from top to bottom Indpendence plays a pretty tough schedule. Charlotte teams are catching up to the I and this is not a crack on Indy getting worse, but local teams getting better.

Indepednce has not played Garinger in a few years now.

well i know MP almost had their chance at big I two times 2 seasons ago but couldn’t finish worth a crap.

those hoover teams would lose to indy easily. nc has much better talent than alabama and indy has won 108 straight. more talent over the years and better coaching. indy has been down the past few years but still better than indy. look at the conference they are playing in. butler has at least 6 or 7 d1 players for this year. indy would beat hoover by a lot. a lot of people in this state underrate nc football but dont realize that talent wise it is one of the top talent wise in the top 5 or 6 every year.

not a single player from charlotte in the top 100 on rivals 2007 football class. there four from NC most come from california, georgia, texas, florida, tennesse, and louisianna

ESPN or FoxSports did some story on the best state for football. Basically, they ranked HS football, college, and pro. Taking into account championships, players drafted, and other information. I’m positive NC was a top 10 state in HS football, if not a top 8. They were rated ahead of Alabama… I’d like to think that’s correct. I’ll see if I can find the story.

I’d do a more in-depth search but ESPN’s search index is horrible.

Watch 08 NC football especially in Charlotte, they’ll have some names on that list, Butler this year might have the talent to challenge Indy, until they bring some of their recruits in, then it’s over.

there are teams from cali, ohio, florida and texas that would all probably beat indy. the way the schools in ohio stockpile talent is ridiculous, especially when you consider its probably at top 5 state. I mean look at Glenville, Troy Smiths senior year he was their QB and they had Ginn at reciever, Whitner who was the #9 pick by the Bills (IIRC) last year, plus another half dozen studs on defense that ended up at Ohio State or Iowa. They would have smoked Leaks team.

Look at Oak Christian in California this year. In addition to Clausen the #1 overall player at QB and Tyler a top 5, 5 star RB on offense they have three 3 stars, a 4 stars, and a 5 star recruits on defense and thats only the seniors, i’de imagine they have some junior talent too. That team would beat Independence by about 4 TDs.

I like Independence, but anyone who thinks they are the top HS football team in the nation is crazy, if they played in California or Ohio they would be lucky to have 1 undefeated season and right now they probably don’t deserve to be in the top 10 teams in the nation.
