My Roommate

Circa 1994 (or 1993) in the Chi Phi house, I got into a baseball discussion with one Rodney Odom. Seems Rodney was a Giants (I think) fan. I was (am) a Pirates fan. We were arguing in a very animated fashion having both imbed aplenty that evening. As we started to get loud, my roommate comes over.
My roommate was 5’4" maybe 140. He looks Rodney up and down and says to me “Is this guy bothering you?” That was the kind of guy he was.
My roommate was one of best friends. We met by almost getting in a fight in the third grade. We went to high school together and he attempted to get freaky with his date in my car at our prom (he somehow got a key to my ride made for himself).
We both transferred in the UNCC. He came in 92 and lived in one of the high rises. I arrived in 93 and we lived in Colville II. He got up with some guys including the 49erpi, and although never played lacrosse in his life, decided to take up the sport. He was absolutely terrible at it, but worked harder than anyone despite the size advantage.
He ended up moving to Greensboro and served in my wedding party (he set up the bachelor party). One of my fondest moments of him was at my house as the Niners almost ran the pale blue rams out of the dance.
My roommate died six years ago tonight. I’m sure that several on this board knew him as he seemed to know everyone. He was a wonderful Niner fan and we lost a great alum in his death.

Peace, my friend. You are missed.

I developed a bond with all the people I’ve lived with in college, and I’d be devastated if anything ever happened to any of them. Even the ones that annoyed me when I lived with them.

Amen.

I’m sure many on this board new him. He was a good person and a good friend.
