The names suggested in the poll are great! If you could choose a name other than the names on the poll, what would it be?

There is no better name than NINER NATION.
Gang Green is too generic. UAB has a gang green and they are in our conference. Who is gang green? A gang of green people? Seriously, not that name.
Green Berets? Half the people dont even know what a beret isā¦ includes me other than some army group. Berets have no relation to Charlotte, 49ers, or basketball. We might as well be the Green Grass Bladesā¦
Halton Hooligansā¦ Nice try. Lets go ahead and be a Cameron Crazies knock off. We arent a huge name. There are students are out school that couldnt name our arena. You think when people hear Halton Hooligans they are going to have any idea what we are talking about??
NINER NATION of the other hand says we are the NINERS. the only well know 49ers in college basketball. The only other NINER NATION i have heard is for teh San Fran 9ers, and that is a totally different sport and league. Plus a NATION is a strong, unified group. To add to it, there is NINERNATION.net, there is a charity formed at our school called NINER NATION CHARITY. There is a tv show in the works that will most likely be named NINER NATION TV. I dont think it will all fit together with our student wearing Halton Hooligans.
But honestly, no matter what our ānameā is, Iāll still be at games being a fan.

Why do we have to change? Tradition should mean something otherwise a team/school has no real identity. They just a have a name/game/character du jour. Thatās what makes some schools/teams so hard to recognize by the casual fan across the country. They keep changing their ālookā so who the hell knows whoās who. But look at the teams/schools that retain, cherish and protect their traditions and everyone KNOWS who they are. For example, check out the ROCK-CHALK-JAYHAWK!! cheer tradition at Kansas. If they tried to start that hokey cheer new today, it would probably flop. But, they have done it for so long, itās iconic and sacred to their fans and also, ESPN apparently. So, stick with tradition. It becomes COOL in time, not because someone just says it is on one particular day.

the main reason is cause there is nothing better.
