NASCAR: Eric McClure

If McClure had been wearing the same “improvised” restraint system that Dale Sr. was wearing in Daytona, he’d be a goner after that impact. It was MUCH harder than the one that took Sr. ???

Perhaps, but the soft walls help just as much in avoiding serious injury. Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin might still be with us had those been in place at New Hampshire. Watch how much the wall deflects when McClure hits it:

Eric Mclure Talladega crash 5/5/12

Wow, what a lick. Thank god for the safer barrier and hans.

Looks to me like his throttle stuck and he accelerated toward the wall. Anyone else see this?

Not sure if his throttle stuck, but he didn’t have a lot of time to hit the brakes with the way he got turned. And remember, they’re full throttle around this track at all times, especially where the wreck happened, so at 200 mph by the time he got his foot to the brake it didn’t do much good.
