With us being the top college basketball state it seems that we would grow more talent out of North Carolina.

How the rankings break down by state:

15 – California
14 – Texas
11 – Georgia
9 – Florida
8 – Indiana, Maryland, Ohio
7 – Illinois, New Jersey
6 – Michigan, New York
5 – Louisiana, North Carolina
4 – Pennsylvania
3 – Arizona, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington
2 – Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin
1 – Alabama, Canada, Connecticut, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Virginia

The 5 from NC:

#62 Dorenzo Hudson
#96 Tracy Smith
#104 Dominique Sutton
#105 Eric Wallace
#122 Marshall Moses

Dorenzo is a beast of a player.

We need to hire an assistant with California AAU connections yesterday.

Guys we are Recruiting or of Interest:

G #34 Jeff Jones - 4*
G #45 Corperryale Harris - 4*
G #62 Dorenzo Hudson - 4*
F #68 Antwaine Wiggins - 4*
F #72 Robbie Hummel - 4*
G #115 Terrence Oglesby - 3*
G #116 B.J. Holmes - 3*
F #118 Kenyan Harmon - 3*
F #135 Michael Sanchez - 3*

I believe state population has more to do with how much talent a state produces.

My question is why do we have the best college basketball state when we haven’t produced much talent to distribute to our schools lately.

Wow, where to start?

So many factors.

For one, Chapel Hole and company have been in business for a couple hundred of years. Having that head start doesen’t hurt.

The size of your athletic budget…what else…interesting question though.

More people = more talent. Georgia is the surpise. The others are traditional basketball areas. UNC-CH and Duke recruit nationally but if there’s a top player in-state, they will get him. Wake does focus on NC guys.

There’s another story that shows ACC getting the highest percentage of top 150’s.

Excellent point.

We are around 10th in population.

Almost every one of those states (with the exception of Maryland, Indiana, Louisiana, and possibly New Jersey) having more players than us are also the states with a larger population.

Quoted for the first time ever being complimented on this board. Its a good feeling.

The only states in the Top 15 in population that are not in the Top 15 of “number of Top 150” Recruits are Louisiana (#22 in population) and Maryland (#19 in population). Louisiana showing up is no surprise though, as we’ve gotten several good players from that unsuspecting basketball hotbed.

The only states that are in the Top 15 in population and not also one of the Top 15 in “number of Top 150” recruits are Virginia and Massachusetts.

Good point made, gotLutz. Add that to your compliment list.

The question is why that talent is coming to North Carolina? We don’t have the most talented players, haven’t for a number of years. Population is irrelevant.
