Anybody else on this board prepared to completely drop support for college sports if unlimited eligibility is allowed and or the academic component is removed?

If either of those happen I’m done.

It’s bad enough as is but that would be an abomination.

Yup. I already have one foot out. If eligibility rules go away, I’ll still root for us and maybe go to a few games, but likely cease donating and buying season tickets.

Same. Close now also. Been with football since day 1. I didn’t sign up for any of this.

Same. Almost there now

If the players are not students I won’t be rooting for us and I won’t be watching.

Yes we have had academic scandals, fake classes lack of educational rigor etc. etc. in America but the majority of players were actual students.

If that goes it rips out the heart of it. They can shut it all down for all I care.

That sentiment is so widely held that I think some semblance of classic college athletics will survive. Simply because there are enough people, and even schools, who want to support that model.

I still see a fracture coming between the pro franchises and the schools who want to stick to as much of the classic setup as the courts will allow. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

In the ideal world the 30-40 schools that can operate like a pro franchise go do that.

The rest of us find some sort of legal place where we get athletes to commit to 3 years and with education and a stipend and cost of attendance as adequate trade off.

Take what ever school are doing that and make amen common sense conferences.

I’m really trying to hold out until the break happens, but it’s getting awfully hard.

I hope the break happens asap and I’ll be fine if we go full non scholarship and play all schools in NC SC in a bus league.

I would have more fun with that anyway.

I want to be in a division where we have a chance to compete for national titles and I don’t care about what division it is.

We need a coalition of leaders who would actually have the balls to do this in enough schools to get the ball rolling.

The top 40 or P4 can all go live in their private hell.

If extra eligibility is granted. What’s to keep an ex player from coming back.

Even if they played pro.

I mean they are getting paid now.

What’s to stop Alex Highsmith, when he can’t make a roster in NFL anymore, from enrolling in classes and joining the team again?

How much would a team pay to get Derick Henry on a college roster??? lol

clt says plavich and jobey and can still shoot, let’s get them on the roster.

That’s the question. If this passes and Alabama offers more money to Cam Ward than his rookie contract, what’s to stop him from going to Alabama instead of the Titans?

It’s already happened. Ewers was offered way more to play in college than he’ll make in the nfl. Dumb to turn it down imho

My point is, even if he gets drafted. If there is not eligibility restriction, why can’t Alabama go head to head for players? Why can’t they sign Christian McCaffrey?
