It’s a good point.
It won’t be an MVP candidate likely, but sooner or later a bench NFL player is going to realize he can make a lot more playing college football, chasing co-eds, and taking some of those fake classes CHeat made famous. Or maybe he actually wants a degree.

The monster money is in the second NFL contract, and you delay the countdown to that by one year. Still, it could make sense to return depending upon the situation.
On the flip side do you sign a 35 year old LB from the NFL that can’t quite keep up there anymore but could for another year or two if playing against 18-year-olds? Or a WR that didn’t pan out and isn’t resigned after being drafted in 2nd round, would they be more highly sought after than most high schoolers?

clt wouldn’t mind having big nate on our line this season
I agree the monster money is the second contract but the average time of a NFL career is right around 3 to 4 years.
The second contract guys are not what will be coming back to CFB when they compare salaries of entry level jobs to NIL money after NFL dream is over.
I’m curious if the nfl will drop the age/yrs from HS requirement and let HS kids come right to the league. It’s a huge way to undercut the college game which is becoming less of a partner and more of a competitor. Goes for the NBA too.

NWA nailed it. At some point, somebody is going to attempt to pluck a player off an NFL roster, and at that moment, the gloves are off. Very interesting. I don’t think it will be a non revenue sport. Likely a bottom of the roster NBA guy or NFL guy.

It’s very hard to compete in the NFL due to the physical nature of the sport coming out of high school. I do agree that schools will start raiding NFL rosters for the fringe players. I would venture to say that every QB drafted outside of Cam Ward would have done better financially to keep competing at the collegiate level.

It is, but man HS kids are built different these days. SPH in Belmont had a kid go to Notre Dame but kid was the size of nfl lineman. Imagine the NFL creating designated roster sports for HS kids. Bring them in let them scrimmage and lift for a year then join active roster. Teams might even create their own JV type of teams. European soccer has junior teams so why not the NFL? Of the NFL thjnk they can make money or that they are losing access to talent because of college - it could get nasty.
My thoughts exactly. Could see them expanding rosters or using practice squad to draft HS kids and stash them away for a couple of years and get then in rhe system and beefed up.
Back home there was a 2A OT 6’8" 315 with about a 36 inch waist. Genetic freak. Crazy.
Also crates an interesting challenge for the league. How would they change the draft if HS kids are in play.
Could NFL teams draft kids then permit them to sign with college team?
All of that cost money which the NFL doesn’t have to spend right now and won’t spend unless they absolutely have to so I think we have quite a while before this happens. Is it possible? Yes, is it likely no not the way things are currently constructed
Also, I just can’t see the NFL losing money to college because surely to God college football is as popular right now as it ever has been and likely ever will be.
This is why I think it moves all involved to let the players unionize and keep this system going because there’s no way that a minor league will command the same monetary revenue that college does.
Reason I say that is that we know what minor league looks like in this country and it’s nothing like FBS football.
Thoughts?
clt has talked to folks in multiple age ranges and NO ONE likes the current status of college sports. all stated less interest due to NIL and transfer portal.

And yet as popular if not even more popular than ever. Go figure.
clt says betting is awesome, but we all know unregulated “college sports” are already seeing shady plays to move the line

I think the UFL is the NFL preparing to go to war with the NCAA if the NCAA makes the first move. High School kids can’t compete with NFL players. Not even close. But if you made a “G-League” equivalent, with no classes, that would be appealing to some kids.
If the college ranks pull in NFL veterans we will see the HS vs Pros convo play out. Now given that’s likely lower level NFL talent, but still older guys that have been in the league nutrition and fitness programs. Leveraging the UFL as developmental league makes total sense. As long as the college game plays nice with the NFL I think everything continues, but the minute the NFL realizes college is a competitor they aren’t going to just sit and let anything threaten their dominance.
As for popularity, IMO Walmart fans of the big brands don’t really care if it’s mercenaries or if the roster flips every year. They just like to root for big brand X. The real damage is being to the people they actually went to those schools whose relationship with their program was not Walmart based. For the big brands the Walmart crowd outnumbers the authentic folks, but lower level P4 programs and g5 programs don’t have that big Walmart fanbase to fall back on. If we lose 25% of our donor base we are cooked.

With the NFL and NBA in mind, do you think that we have approached the Hornets and Panthers for sponsorships/NIL money? It would make sense if we turned into a feeder for their teams. They could watch the players more closely and help with their development. The only problem I see with this model is the draft. There is no guarantee that the players they have spent money to help develop are there when they draft.
