Probably not. Per the NCAA:
Once the five-year period starts, it runs continuously and does not pause for transfers, non-participation, or sitting out.

The NCAA is in court right now arguing that the 2022 class has no right to a fifth year of eligibility.
The NCAA is also lobbying Congress to pass a bill that appears to say they do.
Section 113 of the Protect College Sports Act says a student athlete is eligible to compete for a maximum of five calendar years, starting when the athlete first enrolls full time or the academic year after turning 19, whichever comes first. The 2022 class enrolled in fall 2022. That makes 2026-27 Year 5. There is no transition carve-out in the bill excluding athletes who already used their fourth season in 2025-26. And Section 119 gives athletes a private right of action to sue if the NCAA, a conference, or a school fails to comply with that eligibility standard. For what itâs worth, I checked this against the latest 171-page floor version circulating to Senate offices this week, not the older public text. The eligibility framework is intact.
