I chuckled at the NCAA commercials during March madness…“enhancing the lives of student athletes”… We passed enhancing a long time ago.
So the stricter a school is about their academics, the easier it is to keep your players? Good standing? You can drop a cat through that loop hole.
At some point all eligibility rules are going to come down.
Looks like incoming freshman at Michigan State from Raleigh has to forgo pending USTA money later this month to remain eligible to play for the Spartans:
FWIW, seems like NCAA could allow an S-A to put money from an entity such as the US Open etc into a trust fund that either 1) couldn’t be used until after graduation and/or eligibility had been exhausted or 2) allow funds to be used for school related expenses such as tuition, housing, books etc.
Of course, S-As are most likely going to end up being employees once the courts have their say.
Interesting piece from Dennis Dodd. One of the so-called Super Seniors he writes about is OK State QB Alan Bowman, who started out at Texas Tech before transferring to Michigan and finally landed in Stillwater. Definitely not just a jock as he has a BBA in management from Texas Tech and a master’s in supply chain management from Michigan. Currently working on another master’s at OSU.
