NCAA Transfer Rules

clt says the portal is ruining college sports.

Then you’ll LOVE the NIL stuff to come.

You just need the right staff to capitalize on the transfers right? I bet a lot of those players are better than what we have. Now the coaches have to adjust and go get them.

I thought there seemed to be an uptick in D-II players transferring to D-I and turns out I wasn’t the only one who noticed. From college basketball’s Mr. Cliche:

clt is hearing that teams will be able to loan players like soccer.

Latest “wrinkle” - transferring back to your original school after a season or two away:

FWIW, for those who listen to the BS podcast - Bill Simmons mentioned this on his latest pod. He is a Holy Cross alum and admittedly does not really follow college sports. But he made a point that this could help “smaller schools” (not sure if he used that wording but I will for those on the board that appreciates this connotation ). His example was schools like his alma mater could get the guy at the end of the bench at Duke and could help up their level of competition. I know it’s not that simplistic, it’s one take from a guy that doesn’t follow college basketball all that closely, but this has been my optimistic take on this for a while.

Depends at what level the star players from mid major programs leave. Losing an all conference player to pick up a bench warmer from a p5 is often going to be a net loss.

Yeah that’s the issue. Trading an all conference player who is moving up to a P5 for a kid that couldn’t cut it in the P5 is a net loss for us.

It can work out in our favor. Go check out Austin Knight. Signed with Tennessee out of HS, got lost in the shuffle there, transferred here. He’s now an elite defender at 3rd. Leads the nation in doubles. Hitting .393, slugging .738. I realize it’s going to be situational, but still. He could well be on his way to player of the year in C-USA.
