NCGA seeks to legislate UNC-CH, NC State football + hoops vs. in-state FBS schools 📃

This is the same reason we do not have a medical school, etc.

He represents Shelby. He has 0 chance of losing to a democrat ever.

Well, after Moore gets to elected to Congress, he won’t be blocking any more bills in the General Assembly.

He is currently the NC Speaker of the House but he is also running for U.S. Congress NC 14th district which is most of Gaston County and the southern part of Mecklenburg County. That is somewhat of a swing district. If he ends up representing parts of Charlotte in the U.S. House he needs to do things to benefit the largest public university in the district.

Amazing. This was moving swiftly forward towards approval and he uses his power to suspend.

I thought it was the will of the people, not the will of the Speaker. This is what is wrong with government today.

No telling what he may have been promised to put an end to this. Either way, for his own benefit and to provide favor to Chapel Hill, he shut it down.

Tell me again, why are they referred to as UNC Cheat?

It’s going to get worse. :face_vomiting:

This is the same guy who was sued for alienation of affection by the husband of his mistress. They call him Biscuitville Tim because they would meet there and he used his power as Speaker to prolong the affair. The fact his slimy UNC-CH loving ass is on the ballot proves how warped and twisted our politics have become.

I don’t think he even needed Bubba in his ear. He’s a CH grad as well. Now, if this was, let’s say, a UNCW grad making this decision, then i would be more skeptical.

Certainly plausible that Moore made the first contact to give Cunningham the heads up and to assure him that he’d take care of everything in the Heels favor. But no doubt they were talking to each other.

I think what many people are missing is many fans enjoy college sports because they have a dog in the fight. Because they are then a college sports fan, they enjoy watching other teams play.

I feel like many sports fans are like me. If you relegate my team to insignificance then I could care less about watching anyone else.

Declining viewership leads to declining revenue. Just wait until theory meets reality.

These arrogant idiots think we will all just adopt one of their superleague brands.

They really think that. Even with all the other entertainment options and declining interest in sports.

These people are out of touch idiots.

I don’t think it’s so much as everyone adopting an SL team as it is getting enough to do so to justify the dollars that will be doled out in TV contracts etc should such an entity come to fruition.

As ratings have shown, not only are a number of traditional sports garnering record or near record viewership but also seeing the same in “afterthought” sports like college WBB, softball, baseball, etc that in the past were basically filler for ESPN etc.

Of course, the proliferation of legal betting has a lot to do with things but it doesn’t account for everything. Heck, the latest “debate” concerning Caitlin Clark centers mostly on what some are calling a missed opportunity by Team USA to maximize eyeballs during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Never happens for me.

It would stay exactly as it is today.

I will pull for the Niner’s fully no matter what level we are playing at.

I’ll watch a few big “games of the week” and the playoffs. Not just FBS.

I’ll also be watching FCS and D2 and D3 playoff games like it did this year. Very entertaining.

I’m already a Tennessee grad and fan, and all this is doing is driving me further away from them in disgust.

Hate what college athletics has become.

I will check out once Bilas and ESPN have their way and all of our athletic programs are disbanded or pushed down to D3 like they want.

No they don’t. If they do get new fans then they’ll certainly take them. But they don’t care if our feelings get hurt. They already have an overwhelming market share.

Serious question, what do you think would happen if every CUSA school announced tomorrow that they will no longer play football? Do you think the remaining schools would carry on? Do you think the viewer ratings for the playoffs would be any lower?

If the entirety of G5 fans and a good chunk of power school fans walked they would sure as hell feel it. Especially when they piss off SEC grads like me. I’m their prime conversion demographic and they can go F themselves. A bunch of my Vol fan friends hate it too.

Not to mention the huge sections of the country they could no longer sell ads to because they will no longer have a team to support. Entire states would be dark.

They tried this shit once when they tried to turn MLB into just a handful of brands (especially Red Sox and Yankees), and tried to force MLB to contract.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/columns/ravech_karl/1190990.html

There’s an example of ESPN trying to push MLB contraction back in the day.

The fans revolted. Small market teams made a big comeback and gave ESPN the finger they so richly deserved.

They also tried this crap with European club soccer. Same result.

I know you don’t think so. So there’s no point in discussing it with you any further.

I realize there are extenuating circumstances surrounding the A’s, but their attendance this season has been abysmal for the once proud franchise.

To be honest, if Oakland, KC, Miami, and Tampa Bay stopped playing today, not many would miss them. Of course, Las Vegas is getting the chance to reinvigorate the A’s as the team’s 4th “permanent” locale, so we’ll see how well the MLB does in Sin City once the stadium is built. Until then, hello Sacramento!

It’s really impossible to stick it to ESPN & Fox to protest their super league world domination plan when we still have to subscribe to their services to watch G5 sports. The SEC, B10 and ACC networks are bundled into my Hulu package and most of our games are on ESPN+ or one of their regular networks. I do appreciate the better coverage compared to the CUSA days but we are pretty much forced to support them if we want to watch Niner sports.

So what you’re saying is that with the examples you mentioned, that they too have access to for their research, that they’re going to willingly create something that they know is going to fail?

And by “fail” or “crashing down”, do you really think that University of Texas, University of Florida, Ohio State, etc are going to create something that if it “fails”, they will dissappear and no longer compete in college athletics? Then UNC Charlotte, UTSA, Wyoming, etc is going to come in and replace those schools?

Worst case scenario is they trim it down to 30ish schools for a while, then…they decide they want to expand to whatever they believe is the “magic” number. Best case scenario is they decide from the beginning to have 60ish schools. Either way is not going to result in it “failing” or “burning it down”.

Sure, if you want to say whatever format they come up with in the near future will not be the same as the format in 20 years is considered a “fail”. But I consider that more as evolving.

To me, failing for them would be whatever number of schools they deem to be in the highest division, in 5-10 years down the road having to say “we can’t make it with only 50 schools. We have to open it back up to all 130+ football schools, with all of us on an equal playing field”.
