Jeebus, that was embarrasing. What a way to end the season. Worst game we’ve played all year. First time all year that I would question the effort of this team, although it did improve towards the end of the game… we got beat to every loose ball and they had uncontested three point attempts whenever they wanted them. Fatigue may be a factor since this is our 4th 9pm road game in a week’s time, but a loss like this isn’t what you want sitting on your mind for 8 months. Hopefully this will give the returning guys some motivation for next year.
They played great D on Lee after he hit that first 3. He couldn’t get open all night and started forcing some things. Our offense looked stagnant at times and we put up a lot of bad shots.
Dewhurst really hit the wall at the end of the year. He had such a great stretch midseason and even had a couple of double doubles I believe. Hopefully he bounces back next year.
Coley had a nice game offensively… hopefully he can keep hitting those jump shots next year.
We didn’t get a call all night… not that it would have made a difference in the outcome.
I want Lutz back. I think Lutz will be back. But…he’s got to come up with a better game plan against slow and deliberate teams. I understand we don’t match up well against them. But we should be able to match up better.
Very, very embarassing loss. this one stings, but overall I think this season as a whole should be considered successful. We were picked to be awful and wound up finishing strong and making a nice run in the conference tourney. Sucks to lose like this, but we are a young team and will get better.
Leemire is a class act, and is one of my favorite niners. He did a wonderful job leading the younger guys this year. Good luck to him in the future.
Yeah we stunk it up. It’s a shame. The natural thing to do is start looking to next season. I agree that maybe this ugly loss will sting throughout the offseason and give great motivation for better things next season. I think we had a good season though. It’s hard to end it like this. Here’s to a good season with good times and not so good times, and here’s to next season.
Jeebus, that was embarrasing. What a way to end the season. Worst game we've played all year.
Monmouth was probably worse, but Nebraska is a better team than Monmouth, so it looks worse on the scoreboard. Same issues though, and probably the same reason we struggled (slow, disciplined game). Lutz needs to figure this out and correct it, though that might mean changing his offensive style. Yeah I know....not gonna happen.
Phaler hit a 3!!!
Probably the one positive from tonight. I'm glad he finally got one to go, I think he's probably a better shooter than he's shown this year.
Husker fan here, Just wanted to come over and thank you guys for a nicely played game. Unfortunately the score got a bit out of hand but it was nice to see that even though your guys were down they still played with class. Whenever one of our guys were knocked down there was a green jersey there to offer a hand up. Great show of class put on by you guys tonight.
You guys have some athletes out there and that Coley kid was impressive. Heard a lot about Goldwire over the last week or so but we were able to contain him, seems he’s really the only guy you guys lose though so hopefully we see you guys again next year… preferably in the dance at some point.
I posted this in the in-game thread… but after the game. I’ll repost it and add some…
I seriously about pissed myself when I saw Jones take (2 I think???) threes. I honestly don’t understand why Jones has played all this season over Phaler. Maybe an inch in height? No jumpshot, no foul shot, rare aggression. He’s just so slow. I really don’t understand that. Everyone just seemed like a let down tonight except Harris, Gerrity, and Coley.
And heck, Anderson is still the man. We can be down by 20 points with a minute left and that kid will still throw himself into a table trying to save a ball. Kudos to him 100% for his effort. Definitely plays harder than any other guy on that court imo, and will still help another guy on the other team up and pat him on the back.
Dewhurst also depressed me once again besides that one lone block. Don’t know what happened to him.
Definitely can’t blame this game on any one player. Only a few guys had games tonight, we need a team together to win. Some of the decisions of our players tonight I just won’t understand. I hope Lutz is back again along with some of the faithful 49er crowd, but things definitely need to change. We had a lot more ability tonight than we showed.
Tough loss, we looked tired and just never could get into our offense. Nebraska seemed to be able to do whatever it wanted, plus they shot the ball very well. When I saw Phil launch the 3 I knew it wasn’t going to be a good night. Disappointing loss to what was a good season. Hopefully the guys learn from the mistakes from this season and next year is even better. I am still proud of what we did in Atlantic City. We have to learn to be composed on the road. Other then Clemson we never really played well on the road this season.
Do you guys realize we were playing a team with a 6"4" PF and 6’7" 240 Mack posted up how many times???
I love the way good defensive teams completely over play us on the perimeter because no one on our team without the ball will ever move toward or cut to the basket. There is never any risk of being burned by us by overplaying and half way thru the first half we are so pushed back we are starting the offense around midcourt. I do not think I have ever seen a back door cut from a Lutz offense.
Speaking of that what is our offense? A baseline screen for Lee and if that does not work the guy with the ball go one on one?
Do you not need at least a 6th grade understanding of communication skills to be a color man on ESPN?
I don’t know guys …I really don’t know. What you saw tonight is tournament basketball and we are too undisclipined to even compete.
I saw the game at the ESPN Zone in Denver. I had the misfortune of having some Nebraska fans around me. Nothing like adding insult to injury.
I wish there was something positive but the Huskers were better in every category. They definitely were a better passing team. They created a lot of open shots with good passes. Unlike us tonight, they knew how to find an open man when they were double teamed.
Next year, we have to get some scoring from the point guard position. Harris and Gerrity had two points between them. That just doesn’t cut it.
Hopefully there is an impact player still out there that can provide some scoring help next year even if it is a JUCO.
we only had 23 (or 25 pts), with 13 minutes left in the game. If not a all time record low point total for us at that stage of the game, it must be very close.
I'd rather not go to the post-season NIT than to be embarrassed on national TV.
hate to agree but I have to.
Nebraska looked like they could win the NCAA Tournament. We made them look good, REAL GOOD. Their team should do a fundamentals video on passing on offense. Actually I think they filmed it last night. Maybe this wasn’t the real game, because we looked as if we were nailed to the floor while a passing clinic went on. Maybe we got paid to throw the game… I hope there is some reason besides, this is how Charlotte plays.
Our offense could not have looked worse.
What is sad… I sent out a text message to all my freinds and co-workers that read “Charlotte 49ers, 9pm on ESPN Classic”. After the first half, AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I felt truely embarrassed. I hope my text messages got lost in transition.
Charlotte sold out on Maric and held him way under his average, but consequently, it openned up the 3 point shot and Nebraska hit it most of the night.
I really like the make up of your team and I understand you’re getting most of them back next year. That is a big positive. Good luck to you and hopefully we’ll run into you in the NCAA’s next year…

You beat the piss out of us after I said we dont get blown out.
Really, we aren’t that bad, except, we kind of are, if you know what I mean. We had to take a lead on you and some of our shots had to fall early for what we were trying to do to work. It didn’t happen, and like a well coached team will do, you made us pay for it. I admire your team’s discipline. Good luck the rest of the way.
