cartwheel

Just what we need, another Chapel Hill grad to run the show. lol.

Before jim told me who the commish was going to be i had this convo with him…
Jim: i know the new A10 commiswh
Me: Who is it?
Jim: ACC senior associate commissioner Bernadette McGlade, emerge as a leading candidate for that vacancy.
Me: Is bernie a strong candidate?
Jim: A native of Gloucester City, New Jersey, McGlade earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC.
Me: NNN is going to hate that…
and what do you know…

one negative response that she is a Chapel Hill graduate already. thanks for proving me right fish.

Ahhh **** what the hell is this??

We hired a tool who works for the ACC and has Undergrad AND Graduate degrees from Crapel Hole???

Jesus christ. As if the A10 couldn’t get any worse. We need to get the hell out.

Out of the six BCS conferences how many of their commissioners are women?
Out of the six BCS conferences how many of their commissioners are women?
who cares if she is a woman or not? since when did women not know more about running a conference than men? sexist much?

I’m just glad we hired a BCS commish. I don’t care where they’re from, and neither should anyone else.

We need to enlist Hillary 'cause it looks like a right wing conspiracy: Dubois,
Spangler, Friday, new A-10 Commish, and the Charlotte Observer. Tough
to overcome. lol.

I’ll attempt to overlook the UNC-Chapel Hill part of her resume if she does one thing well that she supposedly did for the ACC… “direct the officiating program, including recruitment, training and development of basketball officials.”

Someone post the youtube video link of CHP doing the cartwheels on his driveway.

It isn’t about a “the ACC is out to get us” mentality. As I said in the shoutbox, you’ve gotta be out of your mind if you seriously believe that someone who works for the ACC, a Chapel Hill grad, is the best person to lead Charlotte and the A10 for the next several years. That being said, I’ll swallow my hatred and admit we’ll be fine. It’s just annoying.

A little info on our girl Bernadette:

 • In 1981, at age 22, she was hired by Georgia Tech and became the first woman to serve as a full-time coach for any women’s sports team. Six years later, she moved into full-time administration, as the school’s associate athletic director.

 • In 1993, she served as the tournament director for the Women’s Final Four. Three years later, she served as an Olympic Games liason.

 • At the ACC, her responsibilities have included scheduling, television oversight and selection, budget management and as the institutional liason with the women’s basketball coaches, as well as directing officiating programs. She’s served on the NCAA Management Council, and is currently active on several national committees, including a recent appointment to the task force for Division I women’s basketball.

 • From 1995 to 2000, she served on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee, and was the chair for the last 2 years.

Also…

It’s no secret that many folks within the A-10 weren’t happy with the TV contracts that were put in place the last few years. McGlade participated on an eight-person NCAA TV Negotiating Committee that secured the largest TV contract for any sporting event ($6.2 billion) from both CBS and ESPN.

That probably didn’t hurt her chances.

(From the Philly Daily News)

Supposedly, Bernadette = more A10 games on TV. Obviously this was a top priority, and it sounds like she was hired based on her experience with getting games on TV. Will she deliver?? We’ll have to wait and see. I sure as hell hope so.

A10 commissioner Benadette McGlade…

gotLutz… that wasn’t necessary to have lifesized a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate on NNN.

Not only is she a Tar Hole grad, she played on the Tar Hole women’s basketball team. I think I’m gonna puke.

Georgia Tech gave her an administrative job in the athletic department for having one winning season in seven years as a poor women’s basketball coach, going 74-116 (.389) overall and 14-80 (.149) in the ACC instead of firing her.

1981-82, 9-16, 2-9/7th ACC
1982-83, 10-19, 2-11/7th ACC
1983-84, 9-19, 1-13/8th ACC
1984-85, 11-16, 0-14/8th ACC
1985-86, 10-17, 1-13/8th ACC
1986-87, 14-13, 5-9/6th ACC
1987-88, 11-16, 3-11/7th ACC
Career Totals (7 years), 74-116 (.389), 14-80 (.149)

Yeah but that 14-80 record is against the ACC!!! So it’s really like having a winner record in any other conference…

Right EE, finishing 7th or 8th in six of your seven seasons in an 8-team ACC is nothing to be ashamed of.

Imagine the celebration in Alexander Memorial in March, 1987 when they finished sixth (5-9)!

So, we got a woman who was an unsuccessful coach who comes from the acc and also went to unc-chapel hill.

Oh yea… I’m all excited. I’m sure she’ll be fantastic for the A10 Women’s Basketball programs.

who cares if she is a woman or not? since when did women not know more about running a conference than men? sexist much?
I think it's fair to be skeptical of a commissioner from women's basketball taking the reigns for a men's basketball conference. It's a different game and a different product. I'd be skeptical of a baseball commissioner taking over the A10, too.

Her sex has nothing to do with it. But, men and women’s basketball are very different products. And men’s basketball is the bread and butter of the A10, barring our success in soccer and baseball.
