New Booker Article

JJ’s got a good read up on Booker: http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=527854

Liked the part about him noticing how much peple in Charlotte love Lutz still.

There is also a new article up on the Northwestern site about Booker’s commitment.

"Moss Point (MS) forward David Booker found that Charlotte was “a match made in heaven” on his official visit, so he committed to the 49ers on Saturday.

David Booker averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game during his senior year.
The 6-foot-7 forward said that everything seemed to fall into place on his visit to Charlotte on the weekend of March 18-19.

“In their offense, I don’t have to play inside,” said Booker, who would prefer to play on the perimeter rather than in the post. “It’s just a great city, a great tradition, and great coaches. Plus, (Charlotte senior forward) Curtis Withers is leaving, so I have a chance to make an impact my first year.”

Withers averaged 16.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for Charlotte this season at the small forward position, where Booker will play for coach Bobby Lutz.

“Those are some pretty big shoes to fill,” Booker admitted.

In Rivals’ last update on Booker, he talked about a final three of Charlotte, Northwestern and Connecticut. He set up a visit to Northwestern for the weekend of April 8-9, but he said he would cancel it.

“I’m content with my choice of Charlotte,” he said. “I liked everything about (the school).”

Booker said he had yet to tell Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody or his recruiter, Paul Lee, about his decision to commit to Charlotte but that he would call them on Monday.

Booker had been interested in Northwestern because Chicago is his hometown, but in the end, the opportunity to play close to home was one of the reasons he decided against Northwestern and the other faraway schools he listed as finalists in the last several weeks, including USC, Boston College and Connecticut.

“Those schools were thousands of miles away from home,” said Booker, who decided that he wanted to play in the South."

Small forward? Withers? I don’t think so. I know we run a 1-4, but I still would not classify Withers as a SF.

From the Sun Herald of Biloxi:

Booker selected as Boys Player of Year

Moss Point forward David Booker was named Mississippi’s Gatorade high school basketball player of the year. He is now a finalist for the national player of the year award.

Booker averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots a game as the Tigers (22-9) reached the 5A State Semifinals. He will play in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Basketball game on Friday night at the Pelham (Ala.) Civic Center.

Northwestern, Tulane and Charlotte are the three final Division I schools the 6-foot-8 Booker will play next season. With a 3.6 GPA and 18 ACT score, Booker has already qualified academically to play as a college freshman for the 2006-2007 school year.

Now, if we can sign Jamel Habel, I’d really be a happy camper!

Booker said Curt would work out with him this summer. You have got to love Curt. He certainly promotes the basketball program in a positive manner.

yeah I was shocked to see that Withers would train with him this summer because he’s also got to do his own work to do to increase his chances of going to the NBA.

Was he really interested in Tulane? I saw that in another thread as well, but on Rivals it doesn’t mention Tulane.
