I mentioned this in the shoutbox a week or two ago, but things are a little more finalized now. I’ve recently had an opportunity to partner with a client of mine that is moving into franchising. Since we’ve been working together for a while, they gave me an offer I couldn’t really turn down.
I will be starting up a floor coating company that will service the majority of the Piedmont region and probably up around Asheville as well. Focus will be on garages, but the product can be used on any concrete floor. The main reason I bring this up here is because we’ll be offering a completely customizable product, unlike the off the shelf varieties (many of which are basically just paint with color flecks), making it a really cool way to finish off a garage / workshop / basement / mancave (if on a slab) with your favorite team’s colors.
My partners recently completed one for a Missouri State graduate:
They went with just a standard gray base and Mo St. color flecks, but even the base layer can be customized to virtually any color.
We also have a partnership with Fathead, allowing us to incorporate logos into the floors too:
Would be a great way to finish off a Niner or Panther themed garage/basement/room.
Would be willing to offer some pretty steep discounts to the point of basically just breaking even just to get some good projects under my belt for promotional purposes. I mentioned it in the shoutbox a few days ago and there seemed to be some interest, so I thought I’d post about it as well.
This is a pretty big career change for me as my background is in online marketing, but I’ve helped dozens of home contractors double and triple (or more) their business by blowing up their lead flow online and I finally just decided I wanted to put that to work for myself.
I’ll have some more details later. The name of the company is still subject to approval. I should have a website link in the coming days as well. That is under construction and should be launch-ready next week.
Typical double garage pricing?
It’s priced per square foot, but at normal cost a 2 car garage would generally be between $2000 and $3000 depending on the product chosen. Could very likely offer it for 40-60% less than that at first just to get some projects to photograph and promote, but I won’t be able to give you hard pricing until later June, possibly July.
I mainly just want to gauge interest right now and I’ll follow back up with people personally later for those that are interested.
Good luck National. I will keep my eyes and ears open for people wanting this service.
I have a couple of questions.
Will you be offering remediation for the concrete floor if it is in poor shape? Mine for example had some bad stains from the previous owners as well as some small jagged edges and chipping on the seams.
How do those floors hold up to the typical wear and tear of a garage that is parked in every day. How does it hold up to the typical AC drip during the summer?

There is a base layer installed. This cures overnight. The next day a clear coat is applied. The final product is impermeable and 800x stronger than concrete.
it has a lifetime guarantee for residential uses. I hope to have a website live after this weekend that will have much of this information.
Congrats NN. Looks solid.
Yeah, it is solid. It seems like a weird industry for someone like me to get into. I get some unusual looks from people when I tell them what I’m doing, but I’ve seen the numbers, I’ve seen the competition, and I know the marketing side of it. I never really thought about anything home contracting related at any point in my life until I started working in online marketing. Almost all of my clients were home contractors and almost all of them make a healthy living or they’re absolutely loaded. We had a plumber that we helped grow from about 10 million per year to 50 million per year in revenue. Many HVAC companies that do 5-10 million per year as well.
Many industries are too competitive and too expensive to jump into, but this one was appealing because it had relatively low competition and low barriers to entry. My client in this industry does very well.
I got tired of seeing my work making someone else rich while my salary stayed relatively the same.

Are the logos easily removed? I was just wondering about resell when someone pops in and views their arch rival on the garage floor.

The logos are just fathead vinyls that are designed for the ground rather than a wall.
I kinda hate self promotion, but here goes anyway…
Nearly a year after posting this, we are finally up and rolling pretty well. I guess most people start out with super optimistic expectations only to realize there are a million things you have to wade through, especially when you are trying to work around having another job. Good learning experience for sure.
We’ve completed several projects at this point from small garages to an aircraft hangar at RDU airport to the fleet management facility at NC State (actually wrapping that one up today).
If anyone is interested, we normally charge ~$5-6/square foot, but I’ll do $4 for any NN.N members or referrals.
We can even do a custom niner color if anyone wants it. It would be a white base with these flakes:
or we could do a Panthers theme. It would be a grey base coat with:

We could also do a color combination with any of these other color choices (up to 3) if you don’t like the combinations I came up with above:
Coincidentally, as I was typing this up, I had a Wake Forest fan call me and ask about custom sports team options. I’ve never had anyone ask for them before.
