New MBB Head Coach search

I wouldn’t be mad about either of those, Keats would be fun as well. I really just want to see a fast paced offense and some high scoring games.

Wes Miller would be a great hire. He can be win big in the American and will reunite the fan base

Can Nolan Smith get some of that Duke dark money for recruits?

What’s so appealing about Wes Miller?

Not my top option, but was really good with 0 resources at uncg. Was okay, not great at cincy, but it might be hard for them to compete in big 12. Known as an excellent recruiter and this might be the perfect level for him.

This, plus Utah State is a better job than ours anyway.

Sorry, he may be the answer, but I wouldn’t have fired Aaron to hire Miller. I hope we have better options.

Miller had losing record in Big 12. Didn’t make tournament in his 5 years there. I feel sure he had more resources than we did. And, I hope we’re not going to fall back to Southern Conference to seal the deal.

Good point!

Plus he had a .500 record in the American, so not much better than Fearne’s .463.

That American conference did have houston, uconn and ucf, fwiw

Whoever it is, I feel like it will be with no one on the roster…the only thing that bothers me is that there seems to be a good core (Bradford, Bonke, Villar, etc.) to build around, but the mass exodus is gonna begin and that core is likely lost. I know some will say it already was, but now we’ll never know. I agree, a change was necessary…but I like some of these players…I’ll be keen to see who decides to stay.

UConn had already returned to the Big East by the time Miller became Cincy’s coach.

And, FWIW, he was 5-4 vs UCF in both AAC and Big XII.

Travis Steele-Miami,OH?

We could hire a guy with 5 NCAA tournament berths in 11 years, including two after completely turning around a mid major program with similar but even less resources than ours. 7 20 win seasons. Knows recruiting in NC like the back of his hand, having spent his whole career here.

Two years removed from a Final Four. Two years! Who else could we get with that type pedigree? I can’t think of anyone. His resume is super solid. This isn’t someone who won a decade ago and flamed out like a typical retread. This is a Final Four coach from two years ago. We may never get an opportunity to hire someone like this again.

Yet, I see people on here poo pooing Kevin Keatts and I can’t figure out why for the life of me. He’s had up and down years, but consistent success by any metric over his career. He was fired by NCSU for not beating Carolina and Duke enough. He doesn’t need to do that here. He could be a huge winner at Charlotte. He knows how to win in the tournament. To me, its a no brainer, Keatts is our best option.

Less resources than ours…yeah, you could say that. We had like 2.3 million for nil last year, uncg had 95k

Oops, thought you meant miller

I’m going to post some coaching records below… I’m not endorsing any of these candidates. Why? Because I’ve had opinions before and I no longer trust my instincts anymore given how screwed up NIL has made everything. But I thought it would be interesting / helpful to see these:

Kevin Keatts

Wes Miller

Takayo Siddle

Not sure of the reliability or accuracy of the tweet, but if Elias is really giving us 25 for 5 years, that’s huge. It’s what fed ex gives memphis
