New MBB Head Coach search

Statement from Director of Athletics Kevin White

“We have high expectations for all of our athletic programs at Charlotte, and while difficult, making a head coaching change is necessary to allow for greater success. Aaron Fearne has been an invaluable assistant and head coach at Charlotte. We thank him for all that he has done and wish him the very best in his career. Our Men’s Basketball program is critical to the department’s overall success and it must regularly compete for American Conference championships and NCAA Tournament berths. We will continue to invest in the program and provide support to our coaches and student-athletes. We have incredible fans, a growing national brand, and an institution on the rise. I look forward to the next chapter of 49er Men’s Basketball."

I hope White has a good list of replacements. We need a very very strong hire. This program needs reinvigorated.

We need to find a hot shot head coach at a lower level and roll the dice that they perform for us.

To get where we need to be we need our coach to excel and get hired out, like Watkins.

Then do it again.

Probably hire a former tarheel player.

Wondering if we are wanting to wait and see who from the first round loses and poach from there? Or should we look at D2?

Looking at the coaches from mid-majors that are in the tourney this year and have had some prolonged success:

Bob Richey (Furman) – probably unlikely

John Becker (Vermont) – unlikely

Flynn Clayman (High Point) – maybe?

Eran Ganot (Hawaii) – unlikely

John Groce (Akron) – yes

Jerrod Calhoun (Utah St.) – yes

Speedy Claxton (Hofstra) – yes

Bill Armstrong (McNeese) – yes

Scott Cross (Troy) – yes

Calhoun will have a choice of P5 jobs.

I hope we get a proven head coach with a successful program this time and not continue to gamble with assistant coaches

Won’t be Clemson AHC Billy Donlon. Just hired by Eastern Michigan.

Hard to believe but Bobby Lutz was the last full time coach we hired with head coaching experience.

That’s exactly why we don’t need another unproven assistant coach
