New rotation.

From what I saw tonight we need to go ahead and set this rotation quickly and just hope it comes together to save us as much embarassment as possible.

My thoughts

PG: Bennett (by default)
Baldwin has regressed and is unsure when facing a zone.

2G: Alexander
Just go big and limit his 3 point shooting.

SF: Drayton:
Again go big and leave him at one position to help his confidence.

PF: Withers
Pound him.

C: Coleman, Nance, or Williams
Find the most consistent and go with him.

Baldwin and Goldwire off the bench in limited minutes.

7 deep is it. No Lewis or Jamison. Lock it in and find a rythmn and pray someone figures out how to shoot.

I asked all offseason when did Goldwire become a great shooter (people were stating this) and I have my answer.

I liked Coleman’s hustle and attitude.

Lutz has no idea what his rotation is going to be yet, just one of our numerous problems.

EJ is playing way too soft to play him starters minutes, and while we’re at it, I’m under the impression that the only decent games he’s had lately were off the bench. I can’t remember a single game he started that he played well. Maybe last year versus TCU? Did he start?

I would say the starting lineup should be

PG Mitch

I don’t feel you can take him out of the starting lineup. He’s struggle some but he’s got confidence and actually is hitting the long ball. He’s made bad decisions but he may be trying to do too much. Mitch just needs to run the ship

SG Bennett

Marcus has shown he can shoot, he can penetrate and he knows how to play. He needs major minutes because he’s a pretty complete basketball player. Understands our team, our system and played much much better than Lee.

SF Alexander

He hasn’t shot well at all, but he’s a good rebounder and defender even when he’s not shooting well.

PF Curt

The obvious choice.

C Split time between Coleman, Nance and Williams

The biggest problem is that none of them is significantly better than the others. However I like Nance’s toughness and effort. Williams is still a mystery and Coleman has good hands and hustles, but is out of shape and commits to many fouls that hurt us.

Off the Bench

Lee

Shot horribly the last 2 games, Coach needs to sit him down and tell him to be a little less trigger happy. Rushed a couple of shots last night.

EJ

He hasn’t shot well, but he seems to play better defense than last year. Not as much of a liability. I think his shot will come. However he needs to start trying to do more in the post.

I say we make it an 8 man rotation and that’s it. No one else should sniff playing time except in blowouts (which I’m dying to see happen).

Is there something wrong with EJ? His last 4 games:

FG, pts, TO, PF, Min
1-7, 2, 2, 3, 16
2-9, 6, 1, 1, 24
0-4, 0, 4, 1, 17
0-1, 2, 4, 4, 13

3-21, 10, 11, 9, 70

he is just playing too soft

He’s a senior, and he’s a Charlotte, NC senior.
Seeing him on the court makes me cringe.

My rotation:

PG: Baldwin
You know why he’s the point when he’s out of the game.

SG: Bennett
His game conditioning will be challenged this week, so as Cowbell suggested it’ll be a bit before he’s THE principle 2G. Leemire backs him up.

SF: Alexander
We need his all-around game, which is substantial. He rebounds the ball nicely.

PF: Withers
And by PF, I mean PF. Not C. PF. I insult you all if I tell you why he needs to be out there.

C: Nance
He’s playing hard, and he’s the best athlete of the group conditioning wise. He always knows where he needs to be. I like that. Coleman backs him up, and like I thought, he’s been a nice little suprise. Needs to work on finishing, which is tied to conditioning.

Bench: Goldwire first guard, EJ (dreadfully) first forward, Coleman first center.
Something must be wrong with Williams’ health… I hope it’s a minor injury as opposed to not being good enough.

Big picture: Bennett is the key here for a couple of reasons. If he can shoot the ball well it: takes pressure of DA and Leemire to be the principle shooters. that alone should help their shooting percentage. coupled together, hopefully it’ll loosen the 2-3 zone we’re seeing for all but a couple minutes these last few games. that in turn will make it easier for our post players (which as a group, by the way, are outstanding) to score.

Our interior defense has been pretty good so far. Our perimeter defense, very suspect. That needs to improve.

Remember that EJ had shoulder problems so that he is still recovering from that. Also, Courtney Williams and Jamison are struggling through health problems right now, and Bennett still isn’t 100% after his injury. Lewis will get exponentially better with time too.

We could have a very scary team come tourney time.

Reminds me of last years NC State basketball team… sucked horribly and then everyone got healthy and they ended up going to the sweet 16.
