The logo on the uncc.edu homepage (the new one) looks good, but I agree that the one in that article looks like $1 Million worth of crap. It’s the same thing, but the UNC Charlotte is next to it and not under it, and it still has a bar beneath it . Maybe it’s just me.
This is some bull****.
Was this a real quote from a letter that was sent out or were you being sarcastic?
Like I said in the other thread where it was mentioned. The only thing good about this switch is that they finally chose the same shade of green across all assets of the university. Other than that however, this was a waste of money (definitely not time however, since there is no way that took longer than a minute to change).
What a joke.
Reading this thread makes me wonder where the rest of our alumni base is and how they feel about this stuff. Not a single post in this thread had a shred of approval or even acceptance of this new logo, its reasoning, and its supposed price tag. Why is it that no one who visits this site approves or voices their approval of a lot of the actions our school takes? If this were a surveying pool, a lot of the stuff the school has done (or refuses to look at) would have been done differently, yet it’s not.
The school is about the students, but alumni out number students almost 4 to 1 and have a very strong say in what our school does. Who are all these alumni who support this nonsense and where are they? I want to know. I want to know that our school is following the path that the people who actually have a right to decide want, and is not just being mucked up by people who don’t really stand for us.
I propose a NNN Logo build off in which everyone comes up with their own concepts and post them on the board. Then NNN votes on it. Logos / Marketing Pkg all together with a supporting campaign message. The winning concept then should be presented to the Alumni department and then to the University.
So we pay all this money for an outside firm to decide what our message should be? Aren’t we all professionals either in school or graduated from this University? Shouldn’t we have better judgment of what this University is about and where it needs to go then some outside firm?
I could grantee that the most faithful market segment giving funds to this university are us… NNN. Our voice should be heard once again… just as our football voice. In fact this might be a part of the agenda to pave the way for football. I myself don’t think it would be wise to start a football team under the UNCC or UNC Charlotte name.
I can do vector art but i’m not a sketch artist… post your concepts and I can deliver the logo…

I like this idea a lot. I’d love to see what people can come up with, and if we can evolve an idea into something that we like. I think we could do it.
One more thing…
Crowns can look pretty bad ass… just looking at this bottle of beer I was admiring the Bud Crown

Might as well have been the real quote.
if they want to emphasize “charlotte” and not “uncc,” they should change the university website to “unccharlotte.edu”

and let him know your concerns and frustrations, i did and he answers.[/QUOTE]
I emailed, shortly after reading your comment here.
Guess I should at least give it til the end of the day, but I haven’t heard back yet.
Nothing mean in my email, unless saying that I think “Charlotte” in more important the “UNC” is illegal. I also said, based on conversations with the general public over the years, I have learned that the name “UNC”, however it is used creates an image of the school in Chapel Hill. In my opinion, we are big enough to stand on our own.
Oh well. Maybe someday, someone with a REAL VISION will be in charge of the school. I have no fact for this, but I get the impression that chp would consider a suggestion to name the school “UNC Chapel Hill - Charlotte Campus”.

I’m about to send an email. Who is this person we’re emailing (their name, position/responsibility)?
Might as well have been the real quote.
So it wasn’t a real quote? The reason I ask is because Erskine Bowles has said that he is fine with a name change. So I’d like to call B*sh on the chancellor if it is real.

I do wish we could change our website name…just a start towards something!

I tried last year to pass a resolution through SGA that would have our website changed, but people anti-name change killed it. This isn’t about the name change, it’s about killing “UNCC,” an acronym that has not been recognized by the school for nearly a decade.

This isn't about the name change, it's about killing "UNCC," an acronym that has not been recognized by the school for nearly a decade.the thing is, you cannot succesfully kill an acronym, ever.
You cannot just change the english language and how people use it. You have to change the root of the problem.
We can say no to “UNCC” for the next 100 years, we can change logos, not print uncc on anything, but so long as the name is the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We are going to be recognized as UNCC. I am the furthest thing from an english major and even i know this

this is old news. in '96 chancellor woodward sent out a community memo asking that all references to “uncc” be removed where possible (including university related apparel) and that university employees refer to charlotte as “unc charlotte” and cease using “uncc.”
