new year.... same crap.
That was crap, dude! I was very vocal about stuff like that after the game.
4 of the 5 were phantom fouls against Curt. The best was his 5th when Visser did the big flop as Curt made his move to the basket.

The most critical crap call was Strickland going over the back to tip in the missed free throw and then the official calling the foul on us. less than 2 minutes left and we were up 2 and would have had the ball…instead we were down 1.
Eric Williams- 0 fouls

Withers, Coleman, Nance - 15 fouls

How does the biggest man on the court not commit an entire foul the whole game?
I’m still trying to figure that one out…

When is the last time we had three players foul out in a game that didn’t even go into overtime? There was definitely some home cooking going on…

Despite the officiating, we still had a good opportunity to win… Wake is not a very good team. Unfortunately we are worse… at least tonight we were.

your kidding right? we missed uncontested 5-10 foot shots all game long. not only did we miss them, some were air-balls. Lutz can't shoot the frickin ball for them.

Did you not watch how many times they got hacked by Williams. Those refs were embarrassing. Any impartial fan would say the same thing. Heck even the announcers questioned 1/2 of their calls.

Officiating aside, we had one of our worst games of the year today, look at these stats,

Wake shot 13 more FTs
Wake shot 15 fewer 3s yet made only 3 less
Wake shot 22 fewer times than us, but only made one less basket
Wake outrebounded us by 4
Lee was 1-5 from the FT line
Wake had 7 more turnovers than us
Wake had 8 less fouls called on them
Wake had 5 more blocks than us

How did we not lose this game by 20?

Because Wake Forest isn’t a good team

Diego, Jobey, Brendon, and I thought this year Alexander would take on that role, but after seeing a few air balls today he isn’t going to do anything for us. You need a least one pure shooter to win in college basketball, most good teams have two, the three point line is too close to not take advantage of it. We would have 5 more wins if we had someone who could strech the D for Withers.

The bottom line:

We played terrible on offense but would have still won the game had it not been for those home-cooking calls.

Didn’t we discuss that would happen at the Fox & Hound? However, Edsell and Rose are usually good officials.

The bottom line:

Or if we would have played better on offense, we would have still won the game despite the home-cooking calls.

What do you expect at Wake? I hate excuses. We could have won this game despite the refs…period.

So many things went wrong for us and we still should have won.

Curtis (I thought) played really well, but when no one else does anything, the defense keys on him. The Visser flop foul was an awful call. Everytime Eric Williams turned around they called a foul on us.

DA = have not seen him play well in any game I have watched…I haven’t seen them all but he can’t get past his man to get to the basket and settles for jumpers that he rarely makes, including a few airballs

Lee = second half was much better but please make something, anything in the first half - what happened to the free throws?

Nance, Coleman, and anyone else playing in the post = please don’t shoot the ball and by the way, let Eric Williams take to ball to the basket, nothing you could do without being called for a foul (and by the way, what about the intentional foul call - I was on the other end but it didn’t look to me like an intentional foul)

Bennett = didn’t shoot enough

Refs = we lost the game because our offense is terrible (the 1st half was painful to watch) BUT good grief - we had three post players foul out and Williams had 0 or 1 foul - no way

Very dissappointing…but definitely the same old crap. I don’t know why I think anything different will happen.

I just rewatched parts of the game… even the announcers were talking about how bad a lot of the calls were.

The intentional foul on Coleman… even though he obviously made a play on the ball.

The 4th and 5th fouls on Withers were both complete bullshit.

Williams should have been called for a charge late in the game, but instead they call a foul on us and he gets a 3 point play.

The little white guy (not Visser) travels with less than a minute to go when we were down by 1… no call.

The game was basically over when Curt fouled out. He had really started to turn it on in the second half… with him out of the game, we lose our best rebounder and any inside game we had. All we could do then was jack up 3s and they just weren’t going in today.

About 10 of the shots missed involved fouls that were not called. Everyone was getting hacked to death down low.

What do they work on in practice?

They practicing on Xbox?

In the last two minutes after further review, the fix was in.

  1. The offensive foul on Eric williams. +3 for wake
  2. the offensive on nance(this was the closest call and you can give it to wake i don’t care)
  3. The no touch mystery foul on courtny williams (against the 30% ft shooter who hit 1 of 2) ?.. +1 for wake
  4. The WALK at the end, after watching on slow motion he clearly walked, the pivot foot was established, and then it clearly moves… then the ball comes out. +2 for wake(on resulting fts)
= +6 for wake in the last 2
thats just the last 2 mins im not counting the intentional foul but i should +1 for wake
    ok +7 for wake

we were awful and should have won anyways…but there is no way in hell that the acc would allow wake to lose this game, a bad season already +maybe losing their coach+ a chance for charlotte to gain in recruiting= not gonna happen

Something that really bothers me, a lot, is that ANYTIME I talk to someone involved with the girl’s team, I hear the same thing, ā€œThe guys would be a lot better if they actually practiced.ā€

I have heard that from a couple of different girls on the basketball team, and the first time was about 3 years ago. I ran into a girl who is a manager on the women’s team, and she made snide comments about their ā€œteamworkā€ and practice routines.

Not a one of them will say more than just basic, ā€œthey don’t really practice,ā€ but I’m starting to believe them and it makes me sad.

How much validity there is to statements like this, I have no idea, but it’s evident that if we are practicing, we’re not practicing much.

Officiating sucked but it wasn’t the reason we lost the game. Missing key free throws, failing to box out, missing easy layups, missing 5’-10’ wide open jumpers, etc. are the reasons we lost this game.

I just hope I’ve heard the end of the crying about the ACC never playing us. We just got a shot at arguably, the worst team in the ACC and still lost. If we can’t beat a team like Wake when they are completely down, then we don’t deserve to be on the court with the ACC. All we do is choke every time we get a shot and I’m sick of it.

With that said, our fans were great there and it was a lot of fun other than the final score. Getting out of that parking lot with snow coming down was a pain in the ass though.

I say we neve play the acc. To me , I put too much emphasis on the game, as well as I guess does Lutz.

We wind up playing tight, we lose and then have to hear S#$% about how we can’t play with the acc etc, so I say the hell with em, and don’t play them at all, unless we meet in a tourney some year.

Actually, based on his comments on Lutz Live, I thought Lutz didn’t put enough emphasis on this game as far as the importance. He said conference games are more important than this one (which they are) but WE NEED EVERY WIN WE CAN GET. Mitch said it was just like any other game. In this state, we have to win these games.

To the media, Lutz certainly did make his point that ACC teams have avoided the Niners. The Observer mentioned it in both articles. That was only the 3rd reg season game vs an ACC team in Lutz’s 11 years either as a Assst or head coach.

Why is anyone suprised at the result?

Anyone at that game saw our guys outhustle and outplay Wake Forest. We took many more shots and played better defense but we missed crucial FTs and a few of the calls by the refs both ways were just flat out awful.

Anyone see the 5th foul called on Justin Gray? That was just as insane as the missed travelling calls on Wake and a few of the other missed/bad calls like Coleman’s intentional.

I sat behind a few hardcore Wake Fans that were very polite and nice, we talked a lot, and a few times we would complain about no calls/bad calls and they would agree with us.

I think we might be a good team if we can just hit our shots, look for a big time bounceback v Richmond on Wednesday.
