Newberry Postgame

Not exactly the kind of game you want to see against an opponent like this. No way should we give up that many points to Newberry. But its the first game of the season so a W is a W. Davis played incredible the last 10-15 min. of the game. If he can figure out that he needs to play with that mindset for 40 min. we will be really good. If Benas and Swede are not good enough to play in that game, I expect virtually nothing from them this year. Also, we are not going to win alot of games taking 40 threes.

Our guards are very good but I don’t know how we are going to compete without being able to rebound. No inside scoring either. Maybe Ajukwa can play PF Washington C. Is Benas going to play?

Without JC Washington, this team would be bottom half of C-USA. With him, we can be top 4. He’s not very good, but he is the emotional leader and tone setter. He is scrappy and can rebound. I think he’s the most essential part to this squad. Lose anyone 1-3, replace them with QJ. Lose him, where do we go? If not Benas or Garvin, it would be UGLY.
I didn’t see anything particularly impressive from Washington, so I’m not sure why you think he’s such a difference maker. He didn’t look awful but he had 0 wow moments.

A d2 team tied us in rebounding. That’s badddddddd.
Must have not been watching the game. Like I said, he’s not very good, but he does every little thing for this team. A few blocks, good rebounding, very scrappy, emotional leader. Why can he not be a rim protector?
I was at the game. Lots of blocks to go around last night…it was a d2 team with short players. Even Braxton blocked a shit back into someone’s face.

Benas looked really good against Newberry last year and we saw how that turned out against d1.

Washington doesn’t have the size or athleticism to be a shot blocker against teams with real big men. Maybe he will be OK for cusa opponents but probably not against the quality ooc teams we play. That’s nothing against his skill set but he’s 6’6.

Midget team was unimpressive except for White to start and Davis late. Game foretells a season of utter frustration because this team cannot defend or rebound.

Not a contender at this point, but much farther than they were the first game of last season.

Griciunas and Bergang were never going to be able to get up and down the court with this team. We would have been playing 4 on 5, and we were taller at every position without them anyway. I can’t explain why Newberry rebounded so much better than us, but it was not a height problem.

I don’t have a problem playing Newberry–as an exhibition game. Don’t skip a potentially winnable OOC game and charge me $20 a ticket for this crap. Our win counts for nothing, and a loss would be a big deal. We are not ECU.

I was at the game.Didn’t understand why we didn’t even play the bigs (other than 2 mins.) and after hearing Price’s explanation I am really concerned. He felt that their style did not work well for Benas/Swede…but if we are letting a D-2 team dictate our lineup rather than vice versa than we really have long days ahead.I understand that the bigs would slow things down for us but what about how they SHOULD have helped us in rebounding and offensively…If coach doesn’t feel good playing those 2 guys against Newberry…than it basically confirms what I felt…that he thinks that they are wasted schollies.I can understand not playing them both at same time…BUT NEITHER ?..Tonight we play Elon and are 5 pt. 'dogs…This could be a long year,I pray not
