I wonder if it was like BPâs miracle shot at Indiana?
Losing is one thing. I donât mind losing but it is how we lost that frustrates me to no end. GET A REBOUND! My goodnessâŚhow bad did we get outrebounded. Huggins said (I think) in one of the pregame articles that we are a BIG team. Didnât look like it to me. Every loose ball and rebound was grabbed by Cincy.
We looked half asleep out there. In the first half when Cincy was bricking everything in sight, we couldnât do anything but watch them get rebound after rebound. Where are our BIG guys? Curt looked lost. There were at least two instances where he had what looked to be a clear layup but he tried to pass it off and it was stolen. TAKE IT UP STRONG! Who cares if it is blocked?
National TV audience and we play like that? It was awful. Not to mention, this now makes Saturdayâs game HUGE. We have to beat someone with a good record and some sort of national attention. If I was a casual BB fan and watched us play tonight, well I would think we are terrible.
That being said (SOMEONE please get a rebound) we have to put this loss behind us and move on. Hope they practice a lot between now and Saturday.
I think Cincy just grabbed another rebound⌠
Bobby got outcoached in the second half, he didnât make any adjustments on the defensive end when they started going on their runs. We never tempered the flow, we just kept throwing the same poor defenses at them that they had already figured out.
But hey, not having a PG like Mitch hurts. He plays, itâs a close game.

Watch it, MK will get mad if you think Lutz got outcoached.

Amazed that there are people on this board who actually think they are qualified enough to determine that Bobby got out coached simply by watching the game. And what's even more amazing is that such skill in making that determination has not in turn produced more Div I coaches from this board or ESPN analysts.
Saying Bobby got outcoached is a nice little cliche after a loss for us. I just find it funny that there are so many gifted experts on this board that are flying under ESPNâs radar.

I listened to the post game. One thing you can always count on in the post game is that Lutz weâll say the things that were his fault. Heâll say, âThis happendâŚand thatâs my faultâ Only happend once last night, he said he probably played Eddie too much. The first thing he said was, âWe played awful.â You rarely ever hear him say that.
Lutz always takes responsibility for things he did wrong during a game, never once last night did he say they didnât adjust and âthat was my fault.â
But I have a better idea. Why donât you call and give a full in depth breakdown of HOW he got out coached and offer him some suggestions from your vast wealth of knowledge and experience of coaching Div I college basketball on how he can improve. That would make for much better radio, and youâd help the team out in the process by educating him.

I donât think Bobby really got outcoached but he certainly had nothing to do with us being in the game at halftime. Cincy just missed wide open shots that just happened to go down in the 2nd half.
We got manhandeled on the boards and Iti had no business being in that game. He looked like a ping-pong ball in a hurricane once a shot went up.
Nance fought for position and should have played Itiâs minutes.
I love how all of the sudden, even the Baldwin bashers from last year and early this year think he is the key to our offense and the reason we lost. Classic.
For those who think Mitch canât run our offense, take a good look at last nights offensive debacle and then rethink your position.
Oh well, itâs just one game and we were due to lose on the road. The only disturbing thing is that we got drilled by an overrated team.
You can put me down as one guy who thinks that Baldwinâs absence isnât the reason we lost. It was all a lack of heart & fire. It seems to be the universal theme that our fans arenât mad about losing, theyâre mad about getting manhandled due to a perceived lack of effort by our players.
We still donât have a PG on our roster, but yeah, last night proved that Baldwin is our best substitute for one.
I dunno that Cincyâs overrated. #18 seems about right. What I cannot buy into is the final score reflecting a talent gap bewteen our teams. I dont see that at all. I see it as a completely horrible effort from our team.
Maxiell just grabbed ANOTHER rebound and flushed it.

The most telling stat of the game is that Cinci had more offensive rebounds than we had defensive. With Mitch out we had to put our leading rebounder at point and replace him with a Drayton (who I like but is NOT a physical player and I just knew Cinci would throw him around). I donât think I saw Curt box out more than 3 times and I know I saw at least 5 times where Hicks got position without Curt even trying. GOLDWIRE HAD MORE BOARDS THAN WITHERS!!!
It wasnât just Curt, Iti did not show up, EJ got thrown around, Goldwire could not pass or break a trap, and the list goes on.
We are a different team with Mitch on the floor and Eddie back at the 3 - that team wouldnât have folded in the second half. This one just mailed it in.
I'm not the one making 600K a year to coach this team.
Call in and offer your expertise then. Maybe you can replace Lutz.
For the life of me I can't understand what your hard-on is for the blanket defense of coach last night. In each game there is a loser, and every game coaches make decisions and adjustments that have a big part in the outcome. Last night Huggins decisions, and adjustments worked a hell of alot better than ours did. If you don't agree with that, I'd say you were nuts, but so be it.
Yet you have yet to tell me what adjustments he made. What were they? Williams shot from the same place in the second half he did in the first. The only difference was he started hitting which opened the inside up for Maxiell.
Coaches game plan, players execute. Is it your position that our players executed perfectly last night, they just executed a bad game plan? Thatâs essentially what youâre saying. If thatâs youâre position, you are nuts.
We lost to a Top 20 team on the road without our starting PGâŚbig deal. I will go on record and say that this was a good lesson for our team.
Weâll take care of home court next go around, and our post players may actually grow a pair in the meantime.

Maxiell was moved from the post to facing the hoop and taking it to us, 2 points in the first half, 21 in the second. I would say that is a hell of an adjustment by Cincy, Wouldnât you? The thing that kills me is that we usually do a great job of adjusting on the fly during the game, I just donât think we did it well enough last night. The part that pissed me off the most is that these guys quit last night. A coach should never allow his team to quit.
Never once did I say we executed well, we played like crap. We played entirely too much 1 on 1 in the second half. I think it is the coaches job to prepare the team and reinforce it during the game. I feel that a coach has more to do with the outcome than you do as far as I can see.
I listened to the Radio group that does the game for the bearcats and they had nothing but good things to say about the job Bobby Lutz does with his team. Then Andy Kennedy got on there and told everyone that Bobby is one of the best coaches in the conference and maybe does not get his due around the nation. Those of you that donât like the job that Bobby is doing, I challange you to tell me what you would do different? Did we get out played? Yes. Did our team play with Heart? No they did not step up to the plate and bring it!!! The truth will be told if they bring a game on Saturday. Win or lose if they come with some heart and game Saturday then the season will not be lost.
I am like a lot of posters here, I am tired of everytime we lose that you want to get rid of Lutz!!! Tell me who with the talent to coach is going to come here and coach when the fans are not satisfied with the winning that we do!!!
Chill out from the game last night. Did we get embarrassed? YEs we did.
Did Mississippi State get embarrassed Tuesday night at Alabama? Yes, I bet they are not yelling for their coach to be fired.
Some of you need to grow up and realize we may have a special team here and that we do have a good coach in Bobby Lutz!!!

I would. In fact I did, a few posts back.
The only adjustment Huggs made was taking Maxiell off the low block and having him drive to the hoop. It worked. He either scored or got fouled and was defended by our post players who played horrible and managed to rack up fouls.
Way to go out on a limb.
So who was going to guard Maxiell? Withers or Iti. Did either play like they had a heartbeat last night? Nope. You really think coach was over there saying, âHey, I know Maxiell is eating you guys alive, Iâm just not going to do anything about it.â If he packs it in to contain Maxiell, as we tried to do, Williams or Muhammed nailed an outside shot. We extend the defense to cover them, Maxiell ate up the middle. Bobby ran more defenses last night than I can count, none were able to work because we were playing like garbage. We canât match up with Cincy man to man.

And youâre saying Lutz didnât do this based onâŚwhat? Were you on the sidelines? Did you hear Lutz not reenforcing the game plan?
Lutz game planned, our players didnât execute. Pure and simple.

We will apparently differ in opinions.
You mention that Curt and Iti played without a heartbeat. I think it is the coaches job to ensure they play with effort, you donât.
And you were in the huddle hearing all of this reinforcement? Good for you.

Itâs sad when the team canât get up for this game. I am not sure what else Lutz was suppost to do to get the team into the game. Our two big men seemed to be busy dreaming of the NBA instead of playing to get into it. Hopefully that changes cause Withers is my favorite player.
Just fwiwâŚ
During one timeout early in the first half last night, you could read Coachâs lips as he said âWe have gotâŚhave gotâŚhave GOTâŚto reboundâ as he just stood there with a âCâmon guysâ look on his face.
Personally, I thought the gameplan was great for the first half, make Cincy hit from outside (they arenât a good shooting team most of the time), especially Jihad (that guy is horrible. I wish he had to guard Mitch last night).
Itâs hard to make an adjustment when a guy hits 2 or 3 threes back to back. You only have so many timeouts.
I didnât see any real coaching flaws last night - I attribute Curtisâ jacking of 3s and Itiâs lazy play to the players, not the coach. Are you seriously going to bench your best player and a guy you know you need to win?
