NFL Rule Changes & Draft Pick Changes

Nothing major, but:

Two minor rule changes also were adopted:

• If a fumble or backward pass goes out of bounds, the game clock will start when the official places the ball in play.

• The NFL eliminated a second onside kick chance if the first onside kick goes out of bounds. The competition committee believed that bad onside kicks should not be rewarded with a second opportunity.

The draft order for the playoff teams has been changed for the 2010 draft and will be based more on playoff finish now than regular season record.

It is about time they changed that on-side kick rule, it was rewarding failure.

I totally agree. For the few plays kickers are present, they need to earn their keep.

Of course there is the pansy-a55 Brady Rule. I guess you have to have panties to play QB now.

Can’t wait for the 18 game schedule after the Player’s Association signs a new deal next year. Two more position games, this time cross conference! Sweet!

yet, one more thing that frustrates me about the NFL.

Ever since the game started, there have been hits and injuries.

I’m afraid one of these days QBs will not be able to be hit at all.

They will wear special jerseys. I think you should be able to hit anyone as hard as you want. Part of the risk when you sign that million dollar contract.

Many of the players won’t like it, but for the fans and especially season ticket holders, it will be great. Season ticket holders are already paying full price for two meaningless preseason home games, so cutting it to one will sit well with them. The trick will be where they put these games, on the front end or split the difference. Real NFL games in the middle of August will be weird, but so would pushing the Super Bowl back another week.

I wish they would go to 19 with only 1 preseason game. That way all 3 cross conference position teams could be played.

Here’s what it would look like if imposed this upcoming year (2009):
