I know itās anecdotal, but I wanted to put it on here cause it made me feel good.
The girl that babysits for my wife and I is a junior in high school. Sheās started looking at colleges and I was talking with her mom yesterday. Her mom said that her daughter had started seriously considering Charlotte. Before it was App. St. or ECU because she wanted the college experience, especially football on the weekends. She said her daughter had just recently heard that we were starting our program and would start play in 2013. She said she was very excited about that and, given the distance back to Mooresville, Charlotte was definitely number one on her list now. Before she had just thought of Charlotte as a suitcase college where nothing goes on over the weekend. Now, with us getting football, the school is really a strong possibility for her daughter.
Was stoked to hear her say that and it just validated even more to me, not that I needed it, how much football will mean for the university going forward.
Football is very advantageous for recruiting students. I have a friend who grew up in Charlotte, absolutely loves the city, went to our summer camps, and went to Niner basketball games all the time with his dad growing up. He ultimately picked ECU over us because we didnāt have football.
I hope this helps us become a more selective university (after we become the largest state university)
