Niner Golfer gets Rookie of the Week

[B]Charlotte, N.C. - [/B]Charlotte 49ers freshman Andy Sajevic (Fremont, Neb.) was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20.
Sajevic shot three-under par over the final two rounds to lead the 49ers to a 4th-place finish at Minnesota’s Gopher Invitational to open the season, Sept. 13-14.
Making his college debut, the freshman shot one-under par 215 to place fourth individually in the 72-player field. He carded two-under par 70 and one-under par 71 in the final two rounds to earn a spot in the top five.
The 2009 Nebraska Class A state champion, Sajevic went birdie-birdie in a sudden death playoff to qualify for the 2009 US Amateur, where he placed in the top half of the 312-player field with a 143rd-place finish. His US Amateur appearance capped a successful summer in which Sajevic had won the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship and the Nebraska State Junior Amateur Championship. He added a runner-up finish at the Nebraska State Match Play Championship and a 7th-place finish at the Nebraska State Amateur. At Fremont High School, he won the 2009 Class A State Title to go with his 7th-place finish at the state championship as a junior and his runner-up performance as a sophomore.

Kid is a player. There is also another new player that was the NCAA DIII champ last year in the lineup. Those two combined with Nagy and a couple of frosh who got a lot of experience last year should have Niner golf headed way up again.
