Anyone else get the ticket renewal mailing that went out last week with the survey in it? Did you get to see our Home Schedule? Best team coming to Halton next year looks like Miss. St. That Home Schedule was horrible to look at!!
We’ve known the opponents for months, it’s been posted here numerous times. I’ll take any bets now that the 49ers will not go undefeated at home next season. Dayton and GW are both going to be tough to defeat. Who would you schedule, IF you had unlimited $$$ to bring a team here, knowing you must win 20 games to get to the dance? Sometimes it’s a crap shoot when you schedule several years in advance, how good will the other team be, how experienced or talented is yours.
The double edged sword, do you want wins or teams you’ll possibly lose to in Halton? How many Miss States do you want to schedule, do you not think the 49ers are already circled on Indiana’s calendar?
Davidson, 18-8, 16-0, RPI 78, SOS 103
*Dayton, 18-11, 10-6, RPI 125, SOS 162
*Duquesne, 8-22, 5-11, RPI 258, SOS 150
*George Washington, 22-7, 11-5, RPI 54, SOS 156
Indiana, 15-13, 10-6, RPI 61, SOS 13
Mississippi State, 22-10, 9-7, RPI 31, SOS 60
Portland, 14-15, 4-10, RPI 152, SOS 129
*Rhode Island, 6-22, 4-12, RPI 301, SOS 182
*Richmond, 14-15, 8-8, RPI 150, SOS 131
*Saint Louis, 9-21, 6-10, RPI 182, SOS 56
*Temple, 16-13, 11-5, RPI 102, SOS 90
Valparaiso, 15-16, 10-6, RPI 189, SOS 211
UNC Asheville, 9-17, 8-8, RPI 252, SOS 218
*Xavier, 17-12, 10-6, RPI 133, SOS 149
I won’t take historical trends into account on the RPIs, just for reference.
Valid point HP
HP is a Jedi Master.
I agree that we can’t get too caught up in the name on the front of the jersey. If we do, then it’s going to be a long season.
Like I pointed out in another thread, GW will be the team to beat in the A-10 if Mensah-Bonsu and Hall remove their names from the NBA draft, plus the addition of LSU transfer (and high school All-American) Regis Koundjia. Others that should contend are Dayton, Xavier, UMass, Temple, and Saint Joseph’s, in addition to the Niners. To be honest, the only teams that will probably be non-factors in the A-10 race will be Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. Otherwise, look for a very competitive year.
Indiana and Mississippi State have a lot of question marks due to NBA defections (both team and recruit-wise), transfers, graduation, and new faces. Heck, Davidson might be the best OOC team we will face during the early season!
I still don’t understand the Portland game, unless it the Trail Blazers.

My bad.
Pcon, the University of Portland Pilots (as in Portland, Oregon) play in the West Coast Conference (Gonzaga, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, etc.). They finished .500 at 15-15, but only 4-10 in the WCC, good enough for 7th in an 8-team league.

Going by this years performances, I bet the niners will play in probably half of next years games. Its a question of 1st or 2nd half really.
I expect an early season home court loss to Davidson. It is about time for Bobby to let them embarass us again.
Andy Katz decided to add his 2 cents on Mississippi State…

I was just wonder why Portland. At least with Long Beach St. you can hang out at the beach for a day. Is Portland 1 for 1?
Pcon, I haven’t heard if the Portland game is a 1 for 1, 2 for 1, or even a one-time deal. Seems like if you’re going to look at the WCC for a potential opponent, then at least make it the upper echelon of that league – Gonzaga, Pepperdine, and St. Mary’s. I suspect the Pilots are on the schedule as one of the “guaranteed Ws” for 2005-06.

They return their top six scorers, and only lost one starter (who averaged 2.8 ppg) from a #136 ranked team (Sagarine) (#152 RPI). I don't see them as a pushover. We should handle them in Halton, but I doubt we thrash them. Pooh will visit Halton next season. Pooh Jeter, that is. :)
X, you’ve got a point. Their website does say that one of their other periodic starters – rising junior 6-8 F Dreshawn Vance – is transferring.

Not as good as I did then, but much depends on how much of a home court advantage we have tonight. If we have the same crowd we had the other night and Wildcats fill the empties, it could be a long night. I still think we’ll win. We have yet to lose to the Kitties at Halton, and I pray that never happens. I was present the last time they beat us on our home floor, and I wasn’t happy. I don’t want the long ride home tonight to include my blood pressure being high.
Why is anyone worried about Davidson’s fans? Even when we play there, it’s a home game for us. If they win, it’s because Davidson’s team is better, not because of any kind of environment their pathetic fans can generate.
