already a thread on this.

I fail.

Don’t worry. The Observer missed it too. Still nothing in print and they don’t even run college soccer scores or recaps anymore.

I am now convinced that if our bball team cracked the top 10 again or even gasp our future football team…the Observer would act as if those sports didn’t even exist. Either that, or they’d have a front-page story on how the ACC has bad records because their fantastic teams “beat up on each other.”

We recognize Soccer America’s college polls and have used them as our standard for years. You have to pick one so that rankings are consistent.
We recognize any poll that has the Tar Holes ranked the highest and have used them as our standard for years. You have to pick one so that rankings are consistent.
Fixed.

That’s cute. Got any new material?

I didn’t ask you to agree. I could have just ignored the thread. I gave you the explanation, which is that we have used one and only one poll in the paper for the 20 years I’ve been here.

Utter blogged on this ranking, which I think is appropriate for polls other than Soccer America.

i’m going to have to take MP’s side, it’s fair. Besides, in the poll we are 24th, the holes are ranked better than in the one they post.

Also, its collegiate soccer, seriously.

Thanks for the clarification. Does that seem to be the standard across most news publications for soccer?

Also, its collegiate soccer, seriously.

What does that mean? Its Charlotte soccer!

Just because its not basketball or a note about football I guess we shouldnt care? Any publicity is good publicity. A note in the O could get more people in the stands.

It seems no one remembers the '96 College Cup, Gunn is going to change that, I just hope he sticks around long enough…

If we are ever going to be the prestigious sports school we want to be, we’ve got to stop copping out with the whole “tar hole” thing. Seriously.
When we win enough to be talked about, we’ll be talked about.

Don't worry. The Observer missed it too. Still nothing in print and they don't even run college soccer scores or recaps anymore.
That's funny. Saturday's Winston-Salem Journal had huge writeups on Wake's Field Hockey win and the upcoming soccer game...................... not to mention most of the front page was dedicated to the Wake football game scheduled to be played later that day.

None of this “we have elected to not do pre-game articles on the hometown team” crap. Oh… and the Journal covers the Panthers and NASCAR too (the excuse we often hear).

I fail to understand why every other newspaper in the country has major pre-game, post-game, and national ranikings articles on the city’s team except the Observer… and examples of those articles have been posted on this board numerous times.

Might I remind you that soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Say what you want to say, but I love watching soccer.

wrong

obviously you weren’t around in CUSA days when we drilled ranked opponents and the next day the ACC would still dominate the frontpage

(note, the coverage from the Observer was better last hoops season)

Women’s soccer win over Pitt got run today in printed version. Blurb on the front page and game recap in College Soccer section. Good to see the section back. Missed Saturday’s scores.

Niner women tied Ohio State and then beat Pitt. Nice wins over BCS schools.

what does it rank in Charlotte, NC? maybe 6th.

Football
Nascar
Basketball
Golf
Baseball
Soccer

Which college soccer games did you watch on tv this weekend?

its just not worth a fight with the observer over, its one poll out of many, once we crack the one they use, we’ll get more respect.
what does it rank in Charlotte, NC?
That depends on who has the good team. Us or UNC. Some of the UNC soccer teams have received so much hype in past years you would think they sold out their football stadium.

Why is a nationally ranked team holding tryouts, especially after the season has started? Seems very junior high school-ish.

coach mentioned it the other day when he came and spoke to the intramural captains meeting for soccer to get folks to come out to more games. He said they may take someone its going to take something really special. He then referenced one of UCLA’s players that has made it really big in the soccer world (i dont remember who) that was a walk on.

So thats why.

plus for all we know someone dropped off the squad. Soccer sadly isn’t followed as closely as most sports.
