Niner on the mound for Indians

In case anyone missed this, former Niner Jason Stanford will be back on the mound tonight for the Cleveland Indians after missing time due to Tommy John surgery. Go get 'em Stanford!

NICE! Shut em out Jason!

Thanks for the heads up! Just found this on MLB.com

Scouting Report:
Indians: Manager Eric Wedge finally tipped his hand Wednesday, announcing that Stanford will start for the Tribe in the final game of their series against Florida. Stanford, who was 4-1 with a 3.41 ERA with Triple-A Buffalo this season, has some pro experience – he made 15 appearances (10 starts) for the Indians in 2003 and 2004, going 1-4 with a 3.10 ERA. The problem is that Stanford is out of Major League options, so his status after this start is in the air.

I’m surprised I beat Metro with this one, but Niner Jason Stanford is starting for the Indians today against the Fish.
He hasn’t pitched in the majors for three years due to TJ surgery.

Umm… I think you just started a thread inside of another thread that was already about what your thread is about lol

Anyone have a list of all the Niners in the Minors or the bigs?? Maybe we could sticky a thread so we can follow all the Niners in pro baseball. I know we just had 3 drafted, and it would be nice to follow them.

I heard somebody talking about this, but what exactly is Tommy John surgey? I know it is supposed to make you like "good as new" right? Isn't it for pitchers?

They basically take the ligaments from other parts of your body (or a cadaver I think), and use them to replace the torn ulnar collateral ligament in your elbow. And yes, it’s typically performed on pitchers.

Hope this is sign of good things to come. Of course, I hope he doesn’t pitch against my Braves, they need a win especially after blowing a lead in the 9th today!

Congrats Jason.

When I played little league I played mostly third, but pitched on occassion as well. In Mint Hill they would not allow pitchers to start throwing curve balls until they were at least 14 because of the ulnar collateral. Supposedly it could lead to serious damage otherwise.

Stanford said he wasn’t worried about his win during the delay.

“I was watching the Cavs game,” he said. “My wife used to be a Cavs dancer.”

NICE!!!

Saw wher Maine is pitching tonight and Stanford is pitching tomorrow. Hope it will be a good week for the Niners.
