Niner Tailgating Concerns

UT tailgating was not impressive for a stadium the holds 100k. Now Clemson tailgating is impressive as they have large open spaces all around campus and they fill it up. USC has a lot of space to tailgate but the stadium is not too near campus. ECU is in a main part of the city and lots of places charge $$$ to let you park. I enjoyed where we parked this past Saturday but it was a 15 minute hike to the stadium.

I have parked in the Black, Green, Magenta and now Gold lots. Gold is the best but Black was a lot of fun.

Whattttt? UT had tailgating as far as the eye could see and tons of vendors, activities, etc. All within a short walk of the stadium…Clemson is SUPER spread out. You almost HAD to bus in from some lots there.

I was never able to afford tailgating anywhere near Neyland. We tailgated in the lots behind the dive bars on the Strip. Probably a 15 minute walk from there to the stadium. 20-25 minutes if there was a crowd.

If we had the funds we could move Hayes.

Then move the practice fields and future IPF to where Hayes is.

Then take the practice fields and make them tailgating lots.

People that come and see the stadium location all rave about how its in the middle of campus like it is. I think it’s really cool at football or baseball or softball or soccer - that our facilities are in the middle of academic buildings. It does present challenges though and we need to be creative with solutions.

Why cant we use the rec fields behind the WF fieldhouse for tailgating, as is? Its a great location and close to the stadium. It would take some planning to make it work…but it could be a really nice spot and its flat and open…there are even driveways that go to the fields for unloading.

We park on top of the Union deck and there is little excitement. Definitely have to bring your own party. But we are close to the bookstore if that matters. I miss the black lot too. Our group would like to be more engaged with the tailgate scene. We may skip our normal tailgate Friday and head over to check what’s happening at the Normbulance. You have room for 10-12 more niner fans?

The tennis facility would be a great place for a tailgating lot before relocating the baseball field.

Would be a cool spot for tailgating but man loading and unloading a tailgating setup would be miserable to me.

In the early years I would park In a deck and carry stuff to black lot to tailgate around the black lot crowd and leave my stuff at the normbulance to pick up on my way out. I hated even doing that

I think I’m just too lazy to tailgate. I wish we had a fun bar scene around campus to hit befire and after games.

Good call. It would be a lot cheaper to move as well.

Hold up.

I just looked at the map.

Expand championship lane and connect it all the way to Cameron Blvd.

Take the section of Phillips road that goes from championship lane to Cameron and turn it into a permanent lot and tailgate there.

It would be adjacent to the Hauser Pavilion.

Reuse the appendage that is championship lane for something better.

Done.

Or couldn’t they just cut down some more trees to shift the bigger practice field over and make a tailgating lot where the big practice field is??

Absolutely come on!!

I dunno what the overall campus plan is for that property

im liking all the tailgate talk…push to new thread?? i got ideas for days. I think building a great tailgate culture as a part of the football program is integral to the 49er identity

Uhhh…you know Championship Lane was basically the old Philips Road alignment that used to go all the way up the hill to Cameron. They spent millions to build the Philips Bridge and realign that road just about 10-12 years ago right? Highly doubt they will essentially put it back like it was.

Fondly remember sitting on that hill trying to get going in a stick shift. Thing was steep.

It sure was.

I mean, I would have to assume there’s some type of parking plan in the with the stadium expansion but don’t know what it is

Another thing I’ve noticed going to away games at other schools is tailgating can be more of a family affair and not just a drinking event. Kids playing pickup football games. Multiple generations young and old sitting around talking and eating.
