Ninernation Co Op fund

I don’t know much about this. Can you donate the money to the school (which I’m assuming they would match), and designate it for athletics, rather than straight to the Athletic foundation?

For all I know, it may technically be illegal to do what we’re talking about since I’m sure the company only intends to match money from individuals, not groups.

Well the way to really do it is to create a 501 c 3 of NNN and then have everyone donate to NNN, which would be matched and then make the donation to the school. Not sure that is in the goal vision or mission of NNN though.

Yep, this would be the only way to do it… like creating a ā€œUNCC Foundation.ā€ However, if the organization started donating most of its reserves to athletic association, it may lose its 501C3 status. So, you would have to donate probably at least 50% to academics… which, really, wouldn’t be a bad thing. I favor academics over athletics anyway.
I agree that matching gifts is the way to go, but I think part of the reason for doing this is for NNN to speak with one voice. The points and perks that come with a sizable donation do not matter and could be waived. If this was an ongoing thing then I think the matching thing would be a big deal, but if it is a one time drive and asking for $50 to $100 per person, I think the not matching is not that big of a deal. Does anyone know how far we are from being fully funded? I think that should be our goal!
According to Judy Rose, as of a couple of weeks ago, we are about $700,000 per year from being fully funded.

That would not be a bad thing and would get the attention of BOTH sides. We are always saying that increased athletics can help the university on an academic side. This would be a fine way to prove it!

$700,000? That far? I thought I heard someone say that it was way lower than that. Needless to say if it is $700k then that being a goal is a bit too high.

I think that figure is BS, I was told a while ago we were less than $200,000 from being fully funded.

I think that ā€œFully Fundedā€ is a pretty ambigious thing that can be manipulted to suit your goals. For example if the NCAA came and said we need to be fully funded to maintain D-1 status, I’m sure you would hear them say we are very close to being fully funded.

Now if your arguement is ā€œWe can’t think about football until we are fully fundedā€, then that number becomes much larger…

Even so, it’s still worth giving. Maybe that should not be the goal; maybe you can donate to one specific project and have something named the NinerNation.net so-and-so. Not sure if they’d go for that, but …

Could be BS. I’d like to get another official response to see how it’s different. That $700,000 figure I got was pretty official, but I’d really like to know.
