since the members of this website are the biggest fans of the program, we should consider pooling a fund to have one giant voice. If 200 of 1500 members here gave $100 dollars annually, all of the sudden we are a $20k foundation customer giving imput. Just a thought, maybe I’m whacked on this one.
same thing on the football website.
if we dangled a check in thier face for $20k a year, Dubois might take us more serious.

you have a lot of good thoughts, this is not one of them.
Actually, I think it is a good idea, except there is not necessarily a single direction we can all agree on. Except football. And possibly changing AD. But I think we need to have more than $20k to motivate those ideas… I don’t know.
i think this is a great idea and other than the fact that we cant all agree on everything, it is a logical one. if we can start dangling money and putting pressure on the administration we can really accomplish something.
I like the idea, since one goal is fully funding all sports why not make a donation to that goal? That would help all of our sports and the AD in general. Not to mention that that is one of the reasons they give for not having football. If they see us as a group working in unison our voice becomes MUCH louder.
I say if we are able to do this we make a presentation of a check at halftime of a ballgame in 07.
Good idea and I maybe would do it, but one big drawback: no company match…
It’s hard for me to donate to something when I know if I donated to something else the organization would get twice as much money and (hopefully) be twice as effective.
So, pick someone who has a company match, collect all the money, and have that person donate it and get the match. Double your power that way.
If there is an upper level where they stop matching, obviously my plan is flawed, but I don’t know how that works.
Or maybe you can have multiple people donate in the name of Niner Nation, each with the match (if there is an upper limit, that’s how you get around it).
Just need to figure out how to divvy up the rewards that come with such a program, i.e. season tickets points and such. Obviously you’d want this to be in addition to your regular donation so that the “NNN Tickets” could then be on their own and you’d all work out a timeshare based on how much each person put into this.

No, I think you misunderstood me and/or I am misunderstanding the initial post.
My company does match my donations… up to $5,000, I believe. No problem there. I am just saying that unless this is under some documented, non-profit category organization, the money I would donate to this cause would not be allowed to be matched. And, I was saying it would be hard to justify putting this ahead of other causes because of this. (not that I don’t agree with its purpose)
Now, if you’re talking about donating to a specific fund held by the university, it would get matched fine. But, then you would not have control over the funds… and the weight it may/could carry with the administration.
I agree that matching gifts is the way to go, but I think part of the reason for doing this is for NNN to speak with one voice. The points and perks that come with a sizable donation do not matter and could be waived. If this was an ongoing thing then I think the matching thing would be a big deal, but if it is a one time drive and asking for $50 to $100 per person, I think the not matching is not that big of a deal. Does anyone know how far we are from being fully funded? I think that should be our goal!

I think I see. I believe you might be misunderstanding the original post (more on that in a second).
But, let’s say that Metro was the person who sets up this “NinerNation.net” donation to the school’s athletic fund (just becuase he started the thread). And let’s say he has a company match. And you give him the $100, cut him a check, hand him a hundy bill, whatever.
When he goes to donate it to the school, the match comes then (from his employer, not yours). So the money does get matched at some point, when he makes the lump sum donation to the Athletic Foundation, in the name of Niner Nation. Correct?
Just to clarify, I believe the original post was saying that everyone should kick $100 into a mythical fund, and THEN it gets handed over to the Athletic Foundation. So rather than 200 donations of $100, you give over on donation of $20,000. Or whatever the final sum happens to be. (Or if the company matches til $5,000, then you break it up into four donations).
There could be tax liability issues for the person(s) who make the final donations, but I’m sure there are enough smart people here to figure this out.
And WBNiner, I think matching is crucial here. Let’s say somehow you get 100 people to pledge $100 a piece. You give it all to two people, administrators of this new NNN fund. They each make $5,000 donations to the Athletic Foundation, and get that $5,000 matched by their employers.
You have therefore just donated $20,000 to the Athletic Foundation in the name of NinerNation.net (in two $5,000/matched increments).

Wachovia matches up to $4,000, but not to Athletic Associations.

Oh, ok… gotcha. I misunderstood the original post. People would have to be very trusting about the main individual’s accountability. I’m not sure if I could trust someone that much… no offense to anyone on here, but bad things can happen.
Actually, the person could claim it as his “own” donation on his tax forms and get a CRAZY big tax dedection for that tax year. (NOT that I’m instructing anyone to do this, nor do I endorse the idea… )
