NITology

It is depressing hearing all the talk about the NCAA tournament and March Madness and knowing we won't be a part of it again.

You don’t know that!

We have the same chances that everyone else has at this point.

We can go as far as winning will take us.

Chin up! And, full steam ahead! (My 100th post!)

:49ers:

We’re listed as on the bubble (updated 3/4/08).
That is just sad. No!

Must think positive!! Must think positive!!
I would like to eat these words but…we will be lucky to win one game in the A10 tournament. Bobby’s magic? I think it disappeared. When was the last time we did anything, in any tournament? CUSA about 5-6 years ago? I’m ready for this season to end. my thoughts exactly

Screw the NIT right in the pooper. Quick, how many people remember who won the NIT 3 years ago? 2? Last year? Who cares. I agree that if we get into it, good, more practice, but that’s it. And we’re on the bubble of the NIT?!? That’s pathetic to even mention.

CBI, really? I wouldn’t accept an invitation to that either.

*On a side note, I hope everyone realized that I used screw and pooper instead of **** and Ass. I’m cleaning up my typing.

Oooh, oooh! I know. Gamecocks won it three years ago and 2 years ago.

I don’t remember who won it last year, though.

Thank you. You learn something new everyday.

They should change it to the Dave Odom Invitational. He won it once with Wake and now twice with USC.

West Virginia? just a guess.

Hello, pooper scooper.
Quick! Who won the NCAA tourney 3 years ago? 2? And, last year?

Chapel Hill, Florida, then Florida…

Sorry, that is easy.
I don’t know about that… The NIT now takes all of the regular season conference winners if they don’t get in to the NCAA tourney, so there are less ā€œat largeā€ NIT spots available. With an RPI of 96 right now, I would not say we would be in for sure.
So, Davidson can knock us out of the NIT if they don’t win their tourney.

Thanks for the info.

And West Virginia won the NIT.

And West Virginia won the NIT.

I remember Kentucky winning the NIT in 1976.

I remember winning our first post-season game held on campus in 2006 vs Ga. Southern with only about 2000 in attendance.

Take a look at some photos of our last NIT game.

So, it does mean something.:blah:

Is it standard NIT dealings to have a game on the better team’s campus? I think that is pretty cool… I must admit all I’ve ever seen of the NIT is like the finals of it on ESPN here or there…not each game like I usually watch the NCAA tourney.

There was a time when the NIT was the premier tournament. Sometimes good teams would pass up the NCAA Tourney to go to the NIT.

Well, perhaps not premier, but more prestigious.

I think the first few rounds are held on the campuses of the higher seeded teams, until there are eight remaining that go to New York.

That’s why we’ll probably never host another one.

Haha, that was a pretty sad game (crowd wise) from what I remember though I had the best seats that game I had all year. Hmm I wonder why…
I remember Kentucky winning the NIT in 1976.
How can anyone from those days forget it? The NIT was still pretty big then and it meant something to play in it…

And the team Kentucky beat was CHARLOTTE… ok, ok… UNCC back then.

I traveled to NYC to see us beat NCSU and then lose the heartbreaker to the Wildcats.
Cornbread was the ā€œdarlingā€ of the New York media that week. The excitement at MSG was
real, and not contrived. Leaving the Garden after the semi-final, pedestrians had to dodge
glass falling out of nearby skyscrapers, due to high winds.
To me, the NIT lost a lot of its prestige (I can’t bring myself to say ā€œglamourā€) when it
started playing the initial rounds on the various campuses.
Still, I would like to see the re-introduction of the ā€œBobby Lutz Tournamentā€ this time in the
A-10, rather than Confus-ya. We have the tallent and the athleticism. If only Bobby could
teach maturity, this current bunch of Niners COULD pull it off. We fell to X by only 2 pts.
It’s not time to talk NIT. We’re ALL IN. Remember?
Anyone going to AC for the tourney?
