No Charlotte-Davidson game

I guess it makes me feel a little bit better thĂ t davidson bailed and not us. But I am still pretty annoyed. Like it or not this was the only game that the avg clt area resident would have paid attention to so while davidson gets national attn in 3 separate tournaments before march, we will be playing the likes of youngstown state. Sweet.

Don’t know who is to blame here, but I do not blame Davidson for what they are doing.

This opportunity possibly only comes once in most coaches career.

Pre season top 25 and nationally televised tournaments is a big deal for all but the elite teams in basketball.

I will miss going to Davidson this year and I wish that this game would have been at Bobcats arena.

Don't know who is to blame here, but I do not blame Davidson for what they are doing.

For the better part of 29 years, Charlotte provided Davidson with a quality home-and-home partner. How often do SoCon schools receive quality home-and-home partners in their gyms? I don’t remember the NCAA committee saying, “Oooh! Davidson!” in the 90s-00s when we were building up our tournament resumes. But we still split the home/away games, though.

So now, with Curry, Davidson has finally turned into a team that could actually benefit us. So what do they do? They accept an invite to a tournament on the presumed date and suddenly we’re looked upon as a 2nd-rate opponent.

Screw 'em. I hope they wallow in obscurity after Curry leaves. If they don’t care about continuing the series — the why the hell should we?

Yes, screw em, but if we were in the same position, we would probably do the same thing.

Two things -

Its apparent that we operated on the date that was agreed on. McKillop IMO should have honored that date, but he didnt. Do I blaim him? No - he needs to ride the shirt tail of his good luck and fortune of actually pulling in a player like steph curry (bc the kid wasnt recruited by anyone else).

Also - though 6 months ago when I was still a bit high on the fact that we destroyed a very good davidson team with 8 nube’s and 1 returning starter - I totally disagree with playing in Bobcats arena with these guys on a regular basis. Look - Davidson is good now because of Curry, but they will be crap again when he’s gone. Why would we play neutral court every year when we can go into their house and destroy them - at least that way it will help our RPI a little bit when they are doing nothing more than rolling through the SoCon like its nothing (because it is just that, NOTHING).

The fact that we arent playing them this year sucks - I was looking forward to getting to travel as a fan to more than one place this year. Other than that and the RPI boost for owning them again, I really don’t care. I’m looking more forward to playing Clemson and X. I hope we replace these guys with someone decent. We desperately need to add to our strength of schedule IMO. I’m also hesitant to go much after the 10th for a date simply because it seems like teams get a little lazy over the christmas holiday - hence the scheduling of the two crap teams on our schedule.
In honor of the Olympics, you get the gold medal in Sugar Coating.
In honor of the Olympics, Bob McKillop and the High School Musical Cats get the gold medal in the backstroke.

Why should we have to juggle our schedule around?? We agreed on the set date, a great opportunity came along for them, and they backed out. So why don’t they juggle their schedule a bit. We shouldn’t be the ones to make any sacrifices.
Davidson had the best team in their history last year and didn’t beat us.

They don’t want to play us!!
I LOVE this statement. I may make it my signature statement.

They don’t want to play us- if they lose it’s a blemish to them with Curry coming off the year they had.

Problem is, they are not going to be as good this year as last. They are going to miss the hell out of Richards and they don’t seem to realize it.

Next problem is this- Curry’s gone after this year and they’ll be bad for a couple of years when we are having our best team in years. I’d schedule them and drill them by 40 in their own house.

This sucks. It was a win on the road against a team that some of those less informed hold in high regard…and most of us would have been there, rubbing it in their faces…again. Oh well. At least we went out on a good note…hell I would have even taken going out after the year before considering our overall record against them…it’s just a shame…we’re giving away free wins :frowning:

Next problem is this- Curry's gone after this year and they'll be bad for a couple of years when we are having our best team in years. I'd schedule them and drill them by 40 in their own house.

Why?

We already owned Davidson during their 12-17 years. We gave their school equal OOC scheduling treatment as Southern Illinois, Alabama, Indiana, Miami, Va Tech, and South Carolina.

After Curry is gone - could you blame Charlotte for never bothering to sked a Davidson road game again? There are plenty of NC schools that would happily allow Charlotte to drill them by 40 in their own gym.

Think about this as well: All those seasons where we were in their top 5 RPI… how many other teams actually gave them a home game?

In regards to the game itself, Davidson needs us more than we need them.
EXACTLY !!! This could be a great example of Davidson winning the battle but losing the war, depending on what takes place in the future.

There is absolutely NO WAY I would agree to play them in Belk next year or possibly any other year. Make them come to Halton if they want to play us. After all, in most seasons, we do them the favor by playing them.

They can just look forward to those nail biters between the likes of Woffard and The Citadel on their home court in future seasons. I don’t count their games in Robert Johnson’s Arena as home games because their opponents always gets to distribute at least half the tickets downstairs.

So they couldn’t even get St. Bonaventure to give them a home game, huh?

Edit: I just saw that the Bonnies played at Belk in 2003 (Charlotte & St. Bonaventure were the only Division I teams that voluntarily gave Davidson a home game)

In Davidson world, the point guard scores all the points for the team. In the rest of the basketball world, the point guard sets up the rest of the team for scoring.

Don’t take issue with them. They are like Charlotte, there are a certain number of fans who will go there, regardless of who is playing. Personally, I’m like that too. If that excites them as well, fine with me.

But I don’t think their fans can be pleased with losing a quality opponent in Belk Arena, especially a local team that fans from both sides get excited about.
