No Life on Mars

If you are a fan of quality TV, then tomorrow will truly be a sad day for you.
Veronica Mars has been cancelled and the last episode will air Tuesday night.
I stumbled on the pilot in September of 05. I though the show was kind of clever with a great concept.
I caught it again next week (with guest star Paris Hilton, who was torched by the show’s writers in a later episode) and I was hooked.
I as a white 30 something hetero southern baptist male with two kids and I loved this show about misfit high school girl who solved mysteries on the side while looking to find out who killed her best friend.
The dialoge was snappy, the acting amazing and the plot twists truly blindsided you. I stood to my feet from a sitting position no fewer than 5 times in the first seasons finale to yeall “OH Hell No” at the TV.
The second season was decent, but no nearly as good as the first (I still watched VM live while taping LOST)
The third season has been very average as the new CW has thried to Gilmore Girlsup the show.
While I’m not saying to watch the finale tomorrow, I’m am going to suggest putting the first season’s DVD’s on your Netflix queue and check it out. If you’ve got a girl spend a weekend watching the first season. This is the only show on the air that my wife and I watch together.

Enough of my ramblings, but I feel there is more out there than wondering what the hell a polar bear is doing on a tropical island. Of course, I wondered that two years ago.

Tintin

The two things I know about Veronica Mars:

-It comes on after Gilmore Girls

-Apparently some guy proposed to his girlfriend via commerical during the show since it was her favorite

I figured I’d let you all know that because, if no one else here likes this show, this could be one of those sad threads that never gets any comments and Tintin’s use of the great French cartoon is too cool for me to let that happen.

The first season of Veronica Mars is one of the best TV shows in the last 10 years. Easy.

The second season was good, but not great.

I am waiting for the third to come out on DVD so I can watch it. I don’t expect anything better than the second season, but I am sure I will enjoy it. Kristen Bell is great.

Thanks for the post, but please note that Tintin is Belgian, not French.

Tintin

Dang! Tricky title!

I was about to post this recent discovery:

The first and second season were terrific, I own both of those on DVD. The new one however…was not very good. It is well known that they tried to adapt the show to a much wider audience in a desperate attempt to gain more ratings, doing so they completely killed the quality of the show. I hate to see it go, but it might not be a bad thing.

I never actually watched the show, but from my understanding is that it was about a girl in high school who went around solving mysteries. Sounds like a bad mix between Scooby Doo and Beverly Hills 90210 to me.

I think jimmyhat might have burst into tears when I told him the news to him last week though.

Nancy Drew?

Veronica Mars is more of a con artist than a magnifying glass detective. The show has been compared to BTVS, but I wouldn’t say that either.
The first season had an several season long mysteries that were in the backround, yet were addressed in the context of an unrelated situation.
If this show had been on a major network, it would have won all the awards. Felicity Huffman couldn’t carry Kristin Bell’s jock.

Tintin

I think the story line with Beaver, almost all of it, in the second season was unneccessary. And I don’t like what they did with Duncan.

But, I did really like the story line around the PCS. I think that was the bread and butter of the second season. Steve Guttenberg’s story line was hit or miss.

I don’t even know what would possess someone to even watch this show.

Tintin

Oh, well there you go. I read Tintin often in French in high school, so I just assumed he was of French origin. Don’t tell me what country invented Caillou, I don’t want to know. Leave me in my ignorance.

Your loss.

I would say she is more like Jim Rockford than anyone else.

Am I the only one that had to google BTVS?

probably.

speaking of tintin…

I only watched the show a few times, it was pretty good. I do have the Maxim somewhere around in here with Miss Veronica in it… VERY NICE!

Good… I was starting to wonder about you people.
