Mitch Baldwin played with him this summer and he says Beasley could play in the NBA now. Said he was unstoppable.
Great to hear. Just think how good heās going to be for us in 2 years.
Like 49er1 posted. I will be shocked if he plays here. Weāve seen talent verbal here before and we all should know how meaningless a verbal is these days, no matter what they say.
I havenāt seen this trend at all, other than for personal/family reasons and those were legit. Weāve landed the highest rated verbals weāve ever gotten. Charles Heyward, Rodney White and Martin Iti.

I can think of 3 players off the top of my head that, in recent history, have backed out on us at the last minute for bigger programs.
Von Wafer- I thought he officially verballed here, however if he didnāt he all but put it in writing he was coming here.
Dermarr Johnson- He is a close friend of Delonte, I believe and we were certain we were getting him. I know a guy who was on the plane with Moxley as Moxley returned from his last visit with Dermarr and he had just told Moxley that he was definitely signing with us. I remember we were on the way to the Conference tournament and the staff was buzzing about it.
Jason Parker- Thought we had him. Wasnāt one of his parents actually telling the Observer that he was signing with Charlotte?
Beasleyās verbal to us means nothing. I hope he does come because I have heard he is beyond awesome, however, like all recuitsā¦Iāll believe theyāre coming when they sign and Iāll believe they can play when we see them in a college game.
Parker may have been nice to us, but he was always hell bent on going to Chapel Hill. He did say Bobby and co. went all out to recruit him, more than any other school.
Wafer and Johnson though were big wind-outs. Dalonte was out with the bum knee when we were recruiting him. They are/were close to the extent that Dalonte is the godfather of DerMarrās child.
Iād also add Gee as a major guy we thought we had locked up, and was someone that we were as high on as we were Rodney but he took one visit to Alabama and verballed.
I will give Beasley this: For all the guys weāve been close on, no on has been a metronome like he has about coming to Charlotte.
Wasnāt it that guy that ended up transferring from Lousiville? He had a miserable game in Halton. I remember standing by my drums, right in front of him when he was at the foul line, screaming āyou shoulda picked Charlotte!ā Bannon? was that his name?
None of those guys (Wafer, Johnson, etc) ever āverbally committedā to Charlotte. We were in the running and had a good shot. We also were very close to Keith Clark because of DeāAngelo but again he never committed here.
And while weāre on the subject, Illinois made a late run at Carlos Williams (signed LOI, #1 JUCO PG) that was snuffed out by our coaching staff.
That guy was Brandon Bender, Lousiville native and ended up at ULā¦and was later posterized by Jermaine Williams.

The point is that those guys were saying the same things Beasley is saying and we know what happened. Verballing is just a formallity and is about as binding as an arena referendum is in this town.
Iāll say it again, I hope he comes here, even though it would only be fore a year but I would say there is only about a 25% chance it will happen.
Iāve seen quite a few high school players in my days, but I would rank Beasley right up there with the best of them.Only David Thompson and Rudy Gay impressed me as much as Beasley as high school players.Gay at UCONN and projected to be the #1 pick in the NBA draft this juneā¦and eveyone around here has heard of Thompson.I know that is saying a lot,but this kid just overwhelmed me.He is a five tool player. He can do it all.If he could go to the NBA this june after only his junior year in high school he would be a lottery pick.I know he canāt,but that is just how talented this kid is.Really hard to believe that he is only a junior in high school.
I go way back with the 49ers,and believe me Charlotte has never seen a more talented player coming out of high school as Beasley. He is the real deal.If you didnāt get to see him against Central Cabarrus then you much check him out when he visits Halton next year.Iāll be tickled to death if he plays for the 49ers,even if it is for only one year.
We had Wafer locked up and set up in a prep school. He left in the middle of the night, went off the map for a few days and ended up at another prep school (in Texas I think) that has ties with FSU and then signs with FSU.
Gee will turn out to be a big miss for us when it is all said and done especially with the 2G situation we have now.

Whatever happened to that guy? I know he got injured and had all kinds of problems in college. Does anyone know if he is playing overseas? I always thought he had the potential to end up in the NBA.

Actually, his dad Jessie is the #1 reason he ended up at Chapel Hill. His dad pushed hard for that to happen. He did not tell the Observer that Jason was coming to Charlotte. Quite the opposite.

My point was that someone in his family, maybe his mother, was pushing Charlotte and another (clearly his father according to you) wanted him at Chapel Hill.
I remember someon in his family being quoted in the observer or another paper that he was definitely coming to Charlotte.
