January 4, 2007 – For the first time in more than a decade Oak Hill Academy boys’ basketball team, the number 1 team in the nation, is heading to Concord, NC. The Oak Hill Warriors will square off against our own Concord Spiders on Wednesday, January 24th at the 7:00 PM game at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center. The JV teams will play at 5:30 the same day.

Concord Spider Basketball Coach Andy Poplin said, “The last time we played Oak Hill back in the ‘80s, we only lost by 1 point. Not many teams can say that much. With the team we have in place this year, I think we can go all the way”. Frank Lapsley, general manager of the Cabarrus Arena agrees adding that the 2006-2007 Concord Spider boys’ basketball team looked “great” in the Northeast Medical Center Prep Classic Tournament last week.” The Concord Spider Boys’ Team won the tournament.

Oak Hill star-studded alumni include Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Josh Smith (Atlanta Hawks), Jerry Stackhouse (Dallas Mavericks), Stephen Jackson (Indiana Pacers), Steve Black (Milwaukee Bucks), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics) and DeSagana Diop (Dallas Mavericks) just to name a few.
