Observer coverage - New beat writer

Good coverage the canadian tour. Apparently, our new Observer beat writer has been named. Her name is Jena Janovy.

David Scott did a nice job of including some other notes of interest, as well:

*Withers has been named to the Preseason Wooden Watch, one of 50 players eligible for the Wooden Award as the nation’s top player.

• The 49ers are getting noticed in preseason magazines, ranked in the top 25 by Athlon’s College Basketball Preview and the ACC Handbook.

• The NCAA granted Charlotte 10 days to practice for the Canada trip, but official practice for the season will begin Friday night. The 49ers’ will have an autograph session at Halton Arena from 10 to 10:45 p.m… Other activities will follow, then Charlotte’s men’s and women’s teams will play intrasquad scrimmages immediately after midnight.

Yes, the Big O did a nice job on the pre-game and first game, then reverted to “business as usual” on yesterday’s game against Humber. The latter story was buried in today’s paper without a headline.

Stan’s doing the Panthers/NFL, Leonard has retired. Meet Jena Janovy, our new Observer beat writer. She played college ball. Not sure where she was before joining the Observer. Maybe Mike can fill us in.

Hopefully she has a passion for her work and gets the space we thing we deserve.
