Odell Turner - 2009

Reading about him in the Big O today, as well as in another recent piece about his working out with former South Meck/UNC-CH/NBA standout Bobby Jones. Says the 6-7 Myers Park H.S. junior is a D-I prospect getting interest from Va Tech, USC, and Davidson.

Charlotte.com: Mustangs’ Turner grows from backup to star

If my recollection serves me right, the last Mustang on our roster was Clinton Hinton back in the 1980s. He was Freshman of the Year in the Sun Belt his only season here (1984-85), then transferred to Oral Roberts.

Clinton Hinton and Leemire Goldwire.

Our players have the best names.

C. Jemal Horton did a nice piece about him a month or so ago and I almost brought him up.

He seems like he might be a tad undersized for a PF, but he’s played very well lately.

Come on, run!

If you’re going to start a thread about a 6-and-a-half-foot tall forward, at least give us a name with recruiting interest from Charlotte!

…like Keith Rendleman.

Actually, I wasn’t sure if we are showing interest or not. I would hope that if Va Tech and USC are doing so, then we are as well. There is quite a bit of talent in Mecklenburg County and I’m hoping we can get some it.

BTW, did anyone read about Cherryville’s Justin Johnson getting busted for damaging school property? That can’t help his recruiting process.

Went for 18 pts and 11 rebs as Myers Park beat South Meck to share the conf. title.

Interesting quote:

"Our kids are really academically challenged and it’s hard sometimes to just say I'm a basketball player' orI’m a soccer player’ or `I’m a football player.’

21-point, 15-rebound, 3-block performance in playoff game versus North Meck.

That and the fact that Turner was the only player in double figures for the team in green and white!

Saw that he ended up at Wingate
