Officiating - Withers/Gray foul outs

At the end of the day, I’m embarassed that we went down to the wire with a team as bad as Wake Forest. They are really, really, awful. Just putrid. Draw your own conclusions about what that makes us.

But, this time, I have absolutely no problem calling out the refs. My boss is an SEC fan and likes to tease me when we lose. He left a message on my machine last night that there must have been mafia money on our game because one ref took it over in the last 5 minutes, fouled out our frontline, and made sure the ā€œrightā€ team won.

I haven’t called him back to argue the point. Don’t think I will on Monday either.

It’s interesting hindsight and all and hearing other fans views. All I heard on my end was how EW was getting fouled and we were getting away with it. From my end we didn’t get any calls inside.

It is quite amazing that Eric Williams didn’t get called for a foul the entire game?

i cant believe they are calling it even. look at the foul shots and the number of fouls. Look at the fact Eric Williams had ZERO fouls.
I am glad that one of them mentioned that drum travled on their last possesion.

The famous ā€˜flop’ happened in the last 3 minutes of the Ga Tech/State game today, apparently the chest bump in the lane by the defender is quite common in the ACC and the official feels compelled to call something when a defender goes to the ground, must be a Duke thing. I say play on.

Also, probably worse than the officiating was the official scoring, no way Wake was +7 on us in the rebound department, we would of lost by 25 in yesterdays game if that was the case.

Thanks, good reading.

I think many ACC fans saw that game yesterday and are intelligent enough to realize that we got jobbed.

Since we’re not the ā€œbig dogā€ of the college basketball world ,yet. I don’t think things will change anytime soon.

Yes, and the ACC office will not announce this week that Bernard Clinton will be suspended from his next assignment. We’ll never know how he was graded (nor Edsell or Rose for that matter).

That was why I hate pro sports and follow the college games. I guess it started to become a cash cow like anything else. It’s hard to keep anything clean any longer.

You know it is bad when the unc-chapel hill fans are talking about it. Has Eric Williams ever played a game before without picking up one foul?

Do we know before hand who the officals are for a game?

The basketball office is notified before the day of the game who the officials will be so yes they should have some idea of how a game might be called. They also get their checks from the home team at the game. (Did someone get a bonus Saturday, LOL?)

The officials’ names are never announced to the public in the arena but of course you see them often enough there and on TV to know who they are and they are listed on the box score.

I painfully just watched the entire game on tivo. I went to the game and thought that the refs sucked and I just confirmed it. Every time one of our players, especially Curtis took a shot inside, we got fouled. Eric William’s fouled almost everytime. It was a very tough loss for our program.

we should start picking on ref’s who are bad at officiating. Especially that short guy with white hair.

I know we missed a few lay ups, but the hacking and no-calls had a lot to do with our shooting percentage. We weren’t very good from 3-point range all day, but watch the first half at how many put-back style shots we got and watch how many times there was contact with no foul called. I couldn’t believe what I was watching the first 10 minutes of the game. I thought we were playing Cincy or UL with different colored uniforms. Once we sort of figured out how the refs were going to call (or not call) the game, we gave some of the hacking back. Still, there was contact on a great many of those close shots we had in the first half and no fouls were called.

Again, we got called for illegal picks at crucial times in the game again today. Wake was not called for several that they should have been. They bounced Leemire around a couple of times like a pinball and the whistle never sounded. If ours are illegal, then theirs are too. This selective officiating, especially on illegal screens, is really getting on my nerves.

Eric Williams playing an entire game without a foul as a joke in itself. In this game and in most of the ones he plays in, he could have fouled out in the first half alone.
