On to TCU

alright guys, playing a fairly good team on national tv on wed… lets have a break-out game on both sides of the ball to show this nation what we really are

I said over a month ago, as soon as TCU comes here, people are gona say how we are gonna kill them and how they suck. They don’t, sure they havent won all their games, or even had any great wins, but they are a good team. Better then last year, where they took us up till the last minutes and beat Louisville. We will win this game, but it won’t be by more then 10. And if it is more then 10, it will be because we made free throws in the closing minutes to win by 12 or 13…

I hope I’m wrong…

And ECU saturday? Thats gonna be another tough win, of course no one will care if we win either of those games on the national level, but they are dangerous, tough teams. ECU came back to almost upset Cincy. Now people are gonna say how “they are terrible what are you talking about we’ll blow them away!”…Blow them away, just like UNCA?, and Georgia State?, and Yale?? Didn’t ya’ll say we would blow them out too???..We’ll win both of them, but there will be no blow out. They will be dirty, hard fought games.

I could not agree more with Cowbell. ECU @ Minges, and TCU are both tough outs. All the casual knowlittles will be upset at our close victories. We all know better, though.

These are two games where the better team is supposed to step up and win. We have NO excuses for dropping either of these…NONE. It’s time that we get beyond the point where we win a big game and then lay an egg against an inferior opponent. If this team wants to make a statement in March, it starts with taking care of business against teams you’re supposed to beat like TCU and ECU.

And there’s also no excuse for not having a packed house Wednesday night to get behind this team.

IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE SOLD OUT FOR STUDENT SECTION NO MATTER WHO WE PLAY!!!

I hope we stay focused. TCU can beat us if we take them too lightly…they’re pretty good. Same with ECU at their place because that’s the game their “Cincy game” - the one they want to win so badly every year. Neither one will be easy.

Where do you get that this is their Cincy game? They play the same teams in conference we do, so I think the Cincy game would be their Cincy game.

Heck, I would even say it’s Marquette over us, because they have actually beaten Marquette.

We are their Charlotte game. We are no team’s national championship game, especially not a team in conference.

PB, you’re entitled to your opinion. I think ECU wants to beat us more than any other CUSA team, because we’re in state. That’s my opinion. Have a great day!!

sorry PB, i agree with tenniner. ECU gets hyped as hell to play us, and I know a lot of ECU fans would take a win over us instead of a win over Cinci any day, even though most years the win over Cinci would mean more

I went to ECU my freshman year before I transfered here and that was the year they beat MU when they had Dwayne Wade, but since that rivalry has cooled down I can honestly say that we are their biggest rival, Minges will be packed.

Screw TCU & ECU. I don’t see us losing more than 2 more games. That would put us at 22-5.

They may want to beat us more than any team, I would buy that, but people say we are their national championship.

That’s ridiculous and arrogant. We are no one’s national championship game. I love it when people say it about Davidson, a team that plays Duke for crying out loud.

We probably are one of the games they want to win the most, but we aren’t their Cincinnati game, it’s silly to call it that since they play Cincinnati every year.

Also, Cincinnati isn’t the game I want the most every year. I wanted the UAB and Alabama games more and I want the Memphis game more. Beating Cincy would be awesome, but I also want a win over UL just as much and want a win at SLU more.

Cincy is a great rivalry, don’t get me wrong. I guess I just figured you were falling in line with some of our posters who think we are so much better than ECU that just being on the same court with them is an honor for their team. There are plenty of people who have that idea.

I have been to all 49ers games at Minges since 1995. The general fan of ECU gets more excited about UNCW than Charlotte. It does not seem like the conference rivalry was ever embraced. I think they do respect our team but dont think it will pack the arena. I think the most filled I saw the place was when we lost back in '95 with Jarvis Lang. This year the pirate pride in baseketball seems the lowest in Herrion's career in G'ville. I'd say 5000-5500 at the game but the student section will still have their usual character.

They might be a little more fired up for our game this year after the way we beat them there last year. Everyone on their message board was pretty pissed about that. I know they banned 5 or 6 Charlotte posters (myself included) from their board that night. :smirk:

I will be down there making plenty of noise this year…

TCU definitely isn’t an easy win, but what home games have been this year? We have played all of our home games at the same level(or slightly above) as our opponants. We don’t blow people out this year. We beat bad teams by 10-15, TCU isn’t a bad team. Maybe this is the game we put somebody away and play good for 40 minutes, but most likely will be a 5-15 point game.

But we have Curtis back.

I think we are Davidson’s biggest game. Duke is just a preseason monster they hope to stay close to. Charlotte is their big, dumb, in-county, public school filled with poor kids don’t know how to behave. Their opinion, not mine. They actually have a chance to knock off the 9ers, and sometimes they do.

I’ve said it before: Halton seems very unfriendly to our shooters for some reason. Bricks, toilet bowl shots that swirl and come out, you name it. Some nights it “sounds” like we can’t hit the side of a barn at home. We seem to shoot better on the road sometimes (see Plavich). Can the rims be too tight and unforgiving? Can they be adjusted?

Does any web site compile stats by home and away games? I’d be curious.

Having attended the occasional Davidson game against foes other than the Niners over the years (as far back as when Terry Holland coached the Wildcats), I can tell you we are not their biggest game. Sure, they want to be us but it's not as important as some of us would like to think.
