1-4 from the FT line…
at least he had 3 steals!
Oh well, he got decent backup minutes, so the coaches have faith in him, hopefully he will do a little better in the next games.
5 rebounds and 3 steals in just 14 minutes is pretty impressive if you ask me. very Ben Wallace-ish
In a question & answer session with the players, Withers had the following responses to the following questions (sorry, but I lost my link):
How does it feel to be a part of this team? Obviously a lot of hard work and buying into the coach’s style of play paid off and carried over to me making the team. I feel that I did the things that he wanted: offense, defense, rebounding, an intensity player. I tried to be all of those things.
You came out here and played against players from some of the ‘bigger’ schools in the country, what was that like? Intimidating at all? No, no, no. It’s all about chance and opportunity. I was given the chance to come out here and play against these guys to prove that I’m just as good, my school’s just as good. It’s all opportunity and chance, really.
What does this say about Charlotte? I hope we get a little more respect, especially after what we did last year. I hope we get the respect that’s due (to us).
What are the strengths of this team? Everybody’s talented. Anybody can start on our team. Our strengths are that we don’t really have to rely on our starting five. We all come together as one.

Yea, I hated the question, but could you ask for a better answer?

Lefty, it was buried in Saturday’s paper. Of course, it made more of the ACC guys making the team than Withers…

So much for the edited answer. Here’s what Withers “really” said…
No, no, no. The fact that you have shown your complete ignorance in asking such as question, no, not at all. I have been dealing with morons like you for some time now. I have learned to live with it.
Anyway, it’s all about chance and opportunity. I was given the chance to come out here and play against these guys to prove that I’m just as good, my school’s just as good. It’s all opportunity and chance, really. If you had been paying attention last season when Charlotte beat the likes of Syracuse, Cincinnati, Louisville, DePaul, and Marquette, you wouldn’t be revealing what a real dumba$$ you are.
By the way, did you know that Wake Forest only has less than 6,500 students. UNC Charlotte has just under 20,000 students. Do the math, if you can. ‘Bigger’ schools my a$$!
If you want an answer on intimidating, go ask Louisville flunkie Brandon Bender.

According to the pictures on the USA basketball web site, Withers started and won the opening tip off, ie., he jumped center for the tip.
Any confirmations on this one ?

He’s listed as #13 and the caption says: And they’re off!!!
Charlotte’s Curtis Withers gets the game started against Canada.
Glad to see no head-band. I hope it does not return in 04-05. Sig Sports will have to find another promotional item.
Yes, he started. Don’t worry about the minutes the game was over after the first 10 mins., he was in there for those minutes.
Don’t they also play today and tomorrow ?
their next game is wednesday, the 28th
