Our initial SoCon hoops sked

Just thought I would put together our “initial” SoCon schedule. We will be in the North Division with App State, Chattanooga, Elon, UNCG, and Western Carolina, which will give us 10 games home-and-away. Another 6 games versus the South division - Charleston, Citadel, Davidson, Furman, Georgia Southern, and Wofford.

Since the SoCon doesn’t discourage non-DI opponents, that will give us the opportunity to play some teams we haven’t played since our NAIA days! I decided to keep the Indiana, Missisippi State, and Syracuse games, as well as UNCA and Georgia State, plus the Rainbow tourney. Otherwise, looks really good!

Anyway, here we go…

GO NINERS! WIN THE SOCON (BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY WAY YOU’RE GOING DANCIN’!)

Lets do the same exercise with our current football schedule.

seriously…this whole Socon talk is amazing and I am honestly shocked that anyone could ever think it would be even a remotely good idea to move to here…football or not.

When ever Tom Sorenson is advocating the move…ya gotta think it is a bad idea!

God that schedule looks awful. Im with you casstommy. No way in hell we move bball to SoCon. OMDB.

Bad or not, it would be great to play more NC teams.

Isn’t the CAA Div I-AA in football? We could stay in the A-10 in basketball and start a football team in the CAA, right? Anything wrong with that? Then we wouldn’t have to stoop to the SoCon.

A10 is D1 AA football too. See UMass for proof of that.

I'm pretty sure we could be a football only for the SoCon. All this bball talk is purely hypothetical.

Yes, I’d like more games that would be a short drive, but not at this cost! It’s not worth it to jump in SoCon with both feet. I think SoCon is a good idea for football, but let’s not base our current situation as reason to even consider that for all sports.

Dax dax dax.... been said many times bud. A10 is disbanding football. Old A10 will move to CAA.

There is not a team on that conference schedule I would ever care to see…minus davidson…

and really…I was getting bored with them…I’m actually kinda glad the beat our ass…makes the rivalry a little less one sided …a little!

LoL. Still, more NC teams. Although I guess it would be better if they were UNCCH or UNCST(ate)

Yeah! What he said!

Are we going to go dancing finishing 4th or 5th in the A-10??

not this year, but there will be years that that happens.

not for us, but the 4th or 5th place team in the A-10.

I’m not trying to be negative on a good thing or something. But, seeing Campbell on the schedule reminded me of the Hal the “Hustleball’ man with the note cards (by the way, I saw his note cards on Ebay a couple of years ago :shades: ) on the sideline and Campbell “Fighting Camels”. Are we ready to move back to the Mineshaft?
I also remembered another sticker " 10,000 and still growing”. And, one night we played them; the attendance was a little over five hundred. Don’t tell me Hal sent his resume in and ask for his old job back . I recalled sticking Hal’s “Hustleball” bumper sticker on one of the campus trash can. What a nightmare ! I had many nasty nightmares from those days until coach Mullins showed up :dribble:. And, the rest was history . . . my nightmares just disappeared without any help from a shrink.

last time I checked, Davidson is in the SoCon and plays a nice schedule.
come on Run, you are better than this post.

I don’t want to be Davidson. Davidson gets those games b/c they’re a small time school with a small time team that has very little chance of beating the big teams they play. Their fans also don’t expect them to.

I personally don’t want to be a team that people cheer for the moral victory. I like the fact that I’m disappointed when we lose to a major team. I don’t want us to be a moral victory team. And that’s what we’d turn into in the So. Con. IMO.

We’re in a down year and we’re all upset because it hasn’t been the norm for us. Move us to the So. Con and years like this are a given.

That should end this thread…

I agree.
I was illustrating the point that the SoCon does not automatically mean you are all the sudden playing NAIA teams… it was a wee bit over the top.

I am not a advocate of the SoCon after all this discussion, but we do need to find a 1AA solution.
