The Sammies are local boys, from Wadesboro and they are all either current or graduated Niners. They are a good band, as the article says they have some songs in an upcoming Dane Cook/Jessica Simpson movie, they are starting to take off a bit.
The song is called “Panthers Leap” and there is a link to hear some of it on that link. Listen to it and then vote in the poll. I’ve never been to a Panthers game, but I hear the current song is very college-esque. “Panther Leap” is an energetic song, you should all make plans to hear them play it live at some point.
Oh I thought our fight song was the song we play when the panthers score a TD but Sorenson just said we’ve never had one. If the song we play when we score a TD isnt a fight song, what is it? Alls I know is, that song is cheezy. It just sounds… cheap and made up. It has not individuality or character. I wish they’d get rid of that song.
EDIT: I just listened to it and I like the cowbell but, ‘I need more cowbell baby.’ But seriously, I don’t really see how it could work as a fight song. Maybe I misunderstand how a fight song is supposed to work but this doesnt seem like it would.
Stand and Cheer is the fight song. They played it the first few years and then pulled it after many complaints. The version they brought back is not as long. As for fight songs… most are kind of corny and stupid… what makes them cool is the history and love of the fans. The song Sorenson refered to is cool, but is not a fight song. When I think fight song I think “hail to the Redskins” or “Rocky Top”. Those songs are corny, but they are fun!
The one they played at the Exhibition games this year is horrible IMO. For someone reason it made me think they were trying to rip off the Redskins or Saints with that type of song.
With all due respect to fellow Niners trying to make good on the music scene, that “Panther Leap” song is horrendous. I’m not a big fan of “Stand and Cheer” either but I think it comes much closer to meeting the criteria for a true “fight song.”
Stand and Cheer is so awesomely bad that it's good. I am not kidding, I really do like it.
Kind of like Jefferson Starship’s “We built this city.” Horrible song, totally deminishes their earlier work, but at the same time I can’t bring myself to turn the station when it comes on.
Sorensen’s plea to change the Panther fight song.
In my opinion, Sorensen needs some help (maybe Dr. Friedman from MAS*H ??).
As silly as some of his opinions were during the NHL playoffs, this is worse.
The words & music of ALL fightsongs are silly. I’m sorry to any Redskin fans, but the words & music to “Hail to the Redskins” are brutal. However, your team (& that song) has stood the test of time & I understand where that song creates some great memories for you.
“Stand & cheer” is a brutal song…but it accomplishes the main goal of ANY fight song. That is, to identify an image/vision of the team associated with it.
Meanwhile, before he submits another collection of words, will someone please “put the gerbil back on the treadmill” in Tom’s brain. His recent opinions (over the past few months) have really gone off the deep end…without a life jacket.
Stand and cheer? Ugh, more like sit and cover your ears. I hate that stupid song, the best thing they did was get rid of it but I guess they just couldn’t let it die.
I like it, because it brings back memories from years ago…but I think they should do away with it because in no way at all is it intimidating. I like when they played ‘boom boom’ by john lee hooker for the last couple of years.
Isn’t that the same song they played when the Panthers first started? I remember there being some really corny song there ever since the first season. That song sucks and needs to be done away with. It makes me feel like I’m rooting for some kind of Barney/Sesame St. football team.
Both songs suck. “Panthers Leap” is quite possibly the worst written song I’ve ever heard. A five year old could’ve wrote those lyrics in about ten minutes. Also, “Stand up and Cheer” is not, “so bad it’s good”, it’s so bad it’s embarrassing. Let’s put it this way. That song is even more pathetic than how much the majority of fans actually care about winning all of those pre-season games in a row. WINNING PRESEASON GAMES DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING!! It’s going to bite Fox in the ass when one of his starters gets hurt in the late 3rd or early 4th quarter when they have no business being in at that time of the game. He’s putting them up against guys who are trying to make an NFL team, they will be trying to go as hard as they can at every opposing player, and all of these guys know how to hit, otherwise they wouldn’t be invited to try out. But back to the subject at hand. The Panthers do not need a made up fight song. Just play “Welcome to the Jungle” whenever they score and watch the drunk racing fans that go to the games cheer their Dale-lovin’ asses off.

Every team keeps the starters in during the 3rd preseason game. Then, you take them out early the 4th game. The 3rd preseason game is the home game where you showcase and find out where your team is going to stand. He didn’t keep the starters in too long either of the previous games or this game compared to other teams. It’s what you do. You have to get a look at how the team is gonna do. In order to keep up with the competitiveness of the damn National Football League, the players have to play. Together. Sometime. Before the season starts. In a serious manner. Because they get paid hundreds of thousands/millions. It doesn’t matter if you have a team of healthy stars when they don’t have any chemistry. The preseason is very important. I’m tired of hearing otherwise.

I never said the preseason isn’t important, I said “winning in the preseason is not important.” And the third preseason game is obviously not a home game for everybody. You play your starters the whole first half, that is what most teams do, then you take the starters out, for the reason of nobody getting hurt, especially players like Foster who is a walking injury waiting to happen. Look at what happened to Clinton Portis this year. That is something teams cannot afford. Keep your opinions though, I’m not saying you have to feel the same way I do, I just wanted to explain how I look at the situation, and why I feel that way.
The preseason is practice/tryouts, nothing more, nothing less. A half is plenty of time to let the starters play together to see how they mold together. I would much rather have a team that has no injuries where you have to work on chemistry than a team full of injuries where, because of injuries, you still have to work on chemistry.
